ROLE — SECURITY PATROL 🔦
SECURITY PATROL
welcome, crewmate shu.
Early in the day on TUESDAY, Shu will hear the familiar ping of the I.R.I.S. at his wrist; the moment that he lifts up his hand to check what the noise is for, a window immediately pops up. The projection fills in a spread of blue, and a message sent only to his designation loads in the window.
I have something of a job for you. Pick a location to set up an off-network camera, to catch anything in the area; if the system is going to pull a stunt on us again, we can certainly work smarter, not harder.
If it does, meet me in the morning after the lockdown ends. I've updated some of your credentials so you should be able to get up before anyone else. We can go get the camera, maybe squeeze in a second location before we have to lock down everything and everyone's awake.

ADRASTEA
Come FRIDAY, early in the morning, a message notification sounds again. It's loud enough that it rouses him from a very groggy sleep before anyone else. No one else even twitches at the sound or the blue light, and there's nobody in the halls the moment Shu steps outside, so might as well head to the location that pops up - right?
It indicates where Shu needs to go to meet Adrastea. The walk there is eerie, and lit only by the emergency lights of the ship - a sickly, golden orange in a strip that barely brightens the dark corners. The senior officer can be found easily there, spinning something almost absently around one finger, the other hand cupping their elbow. Once Shu is close enough, they stop spinning the item in their possession and instead toss it at him for him to catch.
It's a flashlight, one with a strap on the end. Huh. Pretty useful, considering the darkness that surrounds them.
Adrastea taps a flashlight of their own against their shoulder, something serious but enigmatic in their filtered voice as their helmet remains blank, only a faint, cool blue glow just barely visible from within. "Let's go."

RULES
As the role responsible for security patrols, along with the information that is acquired on patrol, Shu is expected to follow a few rules:
1. For now, keep your new designation a secret. Should this designation be shared with anyone without prior authorization, consequences and termination of position are possible. This can be revisited at a later date.
↳ As of w2, you can share your role with ONE non-role person.
2. You may use your knowledge during trial to guide, suggest, or prioritize investigations. If you otherwise distribute any information acquired, it must be done anonymously or without referencing the true source. This can be revisited at a later date.
3. Each week, Security Patrol can do the following:
📹 A. one location can be chosen on Tuesday; this location is where the role can place a video camera, completely separate from the Eudora's system, which is tamperproof and will remain hidden until retrieved.
↳ As of w3, you can place TWO cameras in separate locations.
🔎 B. a second location can be chosen Friday, with two chances to pick again if your choice doesn't get a hit; this is the location which can be investigated before the curfew lockdown is lifted and crime scenes are marked restricted areas prior to being locked down.
Currently, junior crew capsules require a valid explanation as to why you want to check or monitor them, and senior crew capsules are off limits. Anywhere else that has been unlocked on the Eudora is fair game.
4. While patrolling on Friday before lockdown lifts, 1 piece of evidence can be retrieved from the location that you visit. Choose wisely.
↳ As of w3, there is a chance to increase this to TWO pieces of evidence depending on the investigation.
☠️ If Security Patrol finds a dead body, this does not count towards the pieces of evidence that can be retrieved, regardless of whether it's physically located or found in their video log. Adrastea will ensure that the body is brought to trial first thing to give the crew a head start.
5. Once you have completed your patrol, you can choose whether to share the recording (if there is one) anonymously on the public network. If you share it privately, the source of it cannot be revealed at this time.

WEEK 1
SELECTION: CAMERA LOCATION (DUE TUESDAY)

RESULTS
the following people can be seen milling around for the hour and a half during lockdown, before everyone was rendered unconscious:
- Yuri
- Eunhyuk
- Charles
- Shoma
- Ichiban
- Mizuki
- Gregor
- Rodya
- Diluc
wow, look at you guys having a powwow about lore! what good beans you all are... the doors that had kept you locked in raise without issue afterwards, and remain that way for the rest of the recording. although, a little bit after everyone falls asleep and the doors lift, it does appear that a shadow moves just off the camera and disappears out the door without an I.R.I.S. being activated or any credentials seemingly used. fast forwarding will show that a shadow returns hours later, moving more slowly until the recording is still again.
the last thing you see, eventually, is a flicker of blue light from your I.R.I.S. and yourself getting up to meet adrastea. you may discuss the results here if you like! ]

So it was someone in the mart, then. Otherwise they wouldn’t have returned.
no subject
No, otherwise not. And the door shouldn't have opened back up like that.
[ it was an hour after you all fell asleep that they did ftr. ]
no subject
[ no record, no tracks, nothing. if he hadn’t put the camera in the mart, they wouldn’t have known that was where someone’s night started. ]
So. That’s a narrowed down list of people, assuming they did something and assuming it was only one duo of people awake.
[ he’s not exactly thrilled that someone in that mart might’ve acted out last night. oocly if it was yaywon i will fight her into the dirt. she can’t keep dying on us in the first three weeks dammit ]
no subject
[ adrastea reaches up to apply pressure to the forehead of their helmet, like they're using it to rub their forehead as they sigh. ]
Good choice with the store, though. We can at least confirm that the Eudora is just... giving them the access, if not opening up after the eight of us are incapacitated the hour after you all are.

TALK TO ADRASTEA
adrastea is sat... perched on the bar itself in titan's call, the music playing a little bit different from the playlist that thebe usually has playing when no one's changed the jukebox. the holo-singer is off duty, currently, whatever that means.
next to them on the bar counter is a funky little camera. ]
no subject
Expecting another camera shutdown if this happens again, then?
[ off network… sounds like something they’d do back home if they ran into a problem like this. ]
no subject
Better safe than sorry. This hunk of junk is under repairs for the turbulence we went through, so I'm going to see if the local garage can't look into the problems we've had while they're at it, but I'm not the kind of person to rely only on optimism.
I don't really think you are, either.
no subject
Not really, no. You mind if I smoke?
[ because he could really do with a smoke. remember when he was quitting? fun times. ] And then talk me through how your plan’s gonna work with a bit more detail. A camera check and potentially in person investigation before everyone wakes up if something did go wrong?
no subject
I'll live vicariously through you.
[ implying they would smoke if not for helmet purposes, probably. "the NPCs drink and eat through their helmets" this is different. ]
That's the gist. We're working outside of the system, which is outside of proper protocol. I've violated a lot of rules in my contract - and, technically, yours - to do this, but I wrote in that you're just very interested in the intelligence department and are shadowing me on the job. So keep it to yourself for now while we figure out what's going on, that way we don't get slapped for it and the authorizations I've given you aren't revoked.
no subject
I’ll keep one for you, if you ever feel like taking that thing off.
[ smoking buddies. ]
You might’ve noticed, I don’t tend to share a lot. [ dryly. ] Sounds like you expect a repeat of last week. Maybe not as violent, but something at least.
no subject
[ not w1. you know how these things go. ]
Call it... [ a pause, considering their words as they tap a finger along to the calm, jazzy beat against the counter. ] Being cautious. With the way things have been, I'm not going to just sit around and wait. If nothing happens - then we're overprepared and maybe get a stupid video to maybe embarrass someone on the ship later.
If something does happen, maybe it'll help us understand what in the hell is going on here. Not a lot of things have gone right so far.

FRIDAY INVESTIGATION
FOOD COURT
We won't have long, so let's take a look.
[ shu will see the following people in the food court:
- Throné
- Arthur
- Temenos
- Rosamund
- Bradley
- Nero
- Kazuki
- Todomatsu
- Sheba
- Lucien
where would he like to start? you will get to comment five times before the investigation will be considered completed, and will be able to take one piece of evidence if you decide to. happy hunting. ]
no subject
Alright. I’ll make this quick.
[ how’s the state of the room overall? he’s going to wander towards the kiosks to start to see if anything’s wrong there, but is it really obvious there was a giant fight here and the tables are all overturned or something? ]
no subject
some of the chairs and tables beyond this group are overturned and scattered, but the kiosks overall seem undisturbed outside of their seating areas outside being messed up. this isn't near the curfew sleepers who are blissfully unaware of anything happening... including them sleeping through a strange, fast whirring noise.
before he can get to that, though, his foot knocks into something metal. ]
no subject
ah.
well.
examining the metal thing his foot just knocked into first and foremost, then. seeing as he just kicked it. oof. the strange whirring noise and scoping out the overturned tables can come afterwards.
no subject
the metal thing is... a panel! an access panel, if he had to guess, and it's just been carelessly abandoned here in the food court.
the ominous whirring continues in the background. ]
no subject
once he’s done looking at that, he will… go and see what the mysterious whirring noise is. the noise that is not concerning at all. he will follow the direction of the sound. ]
