ROLE — SECURITY PATROL 🔦
SECURITY PATROL
welcome, crewmate shu.
Early in the day on TUESDAY, Shu will hear the familiar ping of the I.R.I.S. at his wrist; the moment that he lifts up his hand to check what the noise is for, a window immediately pops up. The projection fills in a spread of blue, and a message sent only to his designation loads in the window.
I have something of a job for you. Pick a location to set up an off-network camera, to catch anything in the area; if the system is going to pull a stunt on us again, we can certainly work smarter, not harder.
If it does, meet me in the morning after the lockdown ends. I've updated some of your credentials so you should be able to get up before anyone else. We can go get the camera, maybe squeeze in a second location before we have to lock down everything and everyone's awake.

ADRASTEA
Come FRIDAY, early in the morning, a message notification sounds again. It's loud enough that it rouses him from a very groggy sleep before anyone else. No one else even twitches at the sound or the blue light, and there's nobody in the halls the moment Shu steps outside, so might as well head to the location that pops up - right?
It indicates where Shu needs to go to meet Adrastea. The walk there is eerie, and lit only by the emergency lights of the ship - a sickly, golden orange in a strip that barely brightens the dark corners. The senior officer can be found easily there, spinning something almost absently around one finger, the other hand cupping their elbow. Once Shu is close enough, they stop spinning the item in their possession and instead toss it at him for him to catch.
It's a flashlight, one with a strap on the end. Huh. Pretty useful, considering the darkness that surrounds them.
Adrastea taps a flashlight of their own against their shoulder, something serious but enigmatic in their filtered voice as their helmet remains blank, only a faint, cool blue glow just barely visible from within. "Let's go."

RULES
As the role responsible for security patrols, along with the information that is acquired on patrol, Shu is expected to follow a few rules:
1. For now, keep your new designation a secret. Should this designation be shared with anyone without prior authorization, consequences and termination of position are possible. This can be revisited at a later date.
↳ As of w2, you can share your role with ONE non-role person.
2. You may use your knowledge during trial to guide, suggest, or prioritize investigations. If you otherwise distribute any information acquired, it must be done anonymously or without referencing the true source. This can be revisited at a later date.
3. Each week, Security Patrol can do the following:
📹 A. one location can be chosen on Tuesday; this location is where the role can place a video camera, completely separate from the Eudora's system, which is tamperproof and will remain hidden until retrieved.
↳ As of w3, you can place TWO cameras in separate locations.
🔎 B. a second location can be chosen Friday, with two chances to pick again if your choice doesn't get a hit; this is the location which can be investigated before the curfew lockdown is lifted and crime scenes are marked restricted areas prior to being locked down.
Currently, junior crew capsules require a valid explanation as to why you want to check or monitor them, and senior crew capsules are off limits. Anywhere else that has been unlocked on the Eudora is fair game.
4. While patrolling on Friday before lockdown lifts, 1 piece of evidence can be retrieved from the location that you visit. Choose wisely.
↳ As of w3, there is a chance to increase this to TWO pieces of evidence depending on the investigation.
☠️ If Security Patrol finds a dead body, this does not count towards the pieces of evidence that can be retrieved, regardless of whether it's physically located or found in their video log. Adrastea will ensure that the body is brought to trial first thing to give the crew a head start.
5. Once you have completed your patrol, you can choose whether to share the recording (if there is one) anonymously on the public network. If you share it privately, the source of it cannot be revealed at this time.

RESULTS
the following people can be seen milling around for the hour and a half during lockdown, before everyone was rendered unconscious:
- Yuri
- Eunhyuk
- Charles
- Shoma
- Ichiban
- Mizuki
- Gregor
- Rodya
- Diluc
wow, look at you guys having a powwow about lore! what good beans you all are... the doors that had kept you locked in raise without issue afterwards, and remain that way for the rest of the recording. although, a little bit after everyone falls asleep and the doors lift, it does appear that a shadow moves just off the camera and disappears out the door without an I.R.I.S. being activated or any credentials seemingly used. fast forwarding will show that a shadow returns hours later, moving more slowly until the recording is still again.
the last thing you see, eventually, is a flicker of blue light from your I.R.I.S. and yourself getting up to meet adrastea. you may discuss the results here if you like! ]

So it was someone in the mart, then. Otherwise they wouldn’t have returned.
no subject
No, otherwise not. And the door shouldn't have opened back up like that.
[ it was an hour after you all fell asleep that they did ftr. ]

[ no record, no tracks, nothing. if he hadn’t put the camera in the mart, they wouldn’t have known that was where someone’s night started. ]
So. That’s a narrowed down list of people, assuming they did something and assuming it was only one duo of people awake.
[ he’s not exactly thrilled that someone in that mart might’ve acted out last night. oocly if it was yaywon i will fight her into the dirt. she can’t keep dying on us in the first three weeks dammit ]

[ adrastea reaches up to apply pressure to the forehead of their helmet, like they're using it to rub their forehead as they sigh. ]
Good choice with the store, though. We can at least confirm that the Eudora is just... giving them the access, if not opening up after the eight of us are incapacitated the hour after you all are.

[ blunt, but true. ] It could happen. We can’t pretend it won’t.
Mm. I’d hoped we might get some footage of what they actually did, but how the door access is working and the potential suspect pool is a good start.

[ they rewind the feed, bringing up the datapad and squinting - if the way the glow narrows is anything to go by - as they try to enhance the feed. ]
The lights going out made it harder to see who it is. But that does give you a set to at least keep an eye on.
no subject
[ hmmm. is there any indication of the person’s height from the shadow? in comparison to say, the stands they pass by. ]
Yeah. Not that I’m happy about the fact it’s one of this group, but— it’s harder to miss if you have less targets.
no subject
... I'm not, either. [ looking at the collection that was there. ] I'll try to keep an eye on the security feed for public spaces today, see if anyone acts strangely or not. It's going to be my group that oversees things if someone winds up finding a body.

There was weird stuff that happened last week too -- like people cleaning things? Maybe look out for something like that. If someone from our group doesn't act weird, it could be because they were out of the room for a while.
