ROLE — SECURITY PATROL 🔦

SECURITY PATROL
welcome, crewmate shu.
Early in the day on TUESDAY, Shu will hear the familiar ping of the I.R.I.S. at his wrist; the moment that he lifts up his hand to check what the noise is for, a window immediately pops up. The projection fills in a spread of blue, and a message sent only to his designation loads in the window.
I have something of a job for you. Pick a location to set up an off-network camera, to catch anything in the area; if the system is going to pull a stunt on us again, we can certainly work smarter, not harder.

If it does, meet me in the morning after the lockdown ends. I've updated some of your credentials so you should be able to get up before anyone else. We can go get the camera, maybe squeeze in a second location before we have to lock down everything and everyone's awake.

ADRASTEA
Come FRIDAY, early in the morning, a message notification sounds again. It's loud enough that it rouses him from a very groggy sleep before anyone else. No one else even twitches at the sound or the blue light, and there's nobody in the halls the moment Shu steps outside, so might as well head to the location that pops up - right?

It indicates where Shu needs to go to meet Adrastea. The walk there is eerie, and lit only by the emergency lights of the ship - a sickly, golden orange in a strip that barely brightens the dark corners. The senior officer can be found easily there, spinning something almost absently around one finger, the other hand cupping their elbow. Once Shu is close enough, they stop spinning the item in their possession and instead toss it at him for him to catch.

It's a flashlight, one with a strap on the end. Huh. Pretty useful, considering the darkness that surrounds them.

Adrastea taps a flashlight of their own against their shoulder, something serious but enigmatic in their filtered voice as their helmet remains blank, only a faint, cool blue glow just barely visible from within. "Let's go."

RULES
As the role responsible for security patrols, along with the information that is acquired on patrol, Shu is expected to follow a few rules:

1. For now, keep your new designation a secret. Should this designation be shared with anyone without prior authorization, consequences and termination of position are possible. This can be revisited at a later date.
↳ As of w2, you can share your role with ONE non-role person.

2. You may use your knowledge during trial to guide, suggest, or prioritize investigations. If you otherwise distribute any information acquired, it must be done anonymously or without referencing the true source. This can be revisited at a later date.

3. Each week, Security Patrol can do the following:
📹 A. one location can be chosen on Tuesday; this location is where the role can place a video camera, completely separate from the Eudora's system, which is tamperproof and will remain hidden until retrieved.
↳ As of w3, you can place TWO cameras in separate locations.

🔎 B. a second location can be chosen Friday, with two chances to pick again if your choice doesn't get a hit; this is the location which can be investigated before the curfew lockdown is lifted and crime scenes are marked restricted areas prior to being locked down.
Currently, junior crew capsules require a valid explanation as to why you want to check or monitor them, and senior crew capsules are off limits. Anywhere else that has been unlocked on the Eudora is fair game.

4. While patrolling on Friday before lockdown lifts, 1 piece of evidence can be retrieved from the location that you visit. Choose wisely.
↳ As of w3, there is a chance to increase this to TWO pieces of evidence depending on the investigation.

☠️ If Security Patrol finds a dead body, this does not count towards the pieces of evidence that can be retrieved, regardless of whether it's physically located or found in their video log. Adrastea will ensure that the body is brought to trial first thing to give the crew a head start.

5. Once you have completed your patrol, you can choose whether to share the recording (if there is one) anonymously on the public network. If you share it privately, the source of it cannot be revealed at this time.

[ access panel…. is there anything obvious about it damage wise? does it look bent or scuffed in any way? evidence that it could’ve been used to smash someone in the face?

once he’s done looking at that, he will… go and see what the mysterious whirring noise is. the noise that is not concerning at all. he will follow the direction of the sound. ]

[ yikes ]

What the hell—?

[ so. someone tampered with a robot. fun times. ] … I’m not sure I want to mess with this. If it being like this means something, I don’t want to risk anyone overlooking it.

[ a robot with a missing access panel? notable. a pissed off spinning robot with the emoji face from hell? more notable, possibly significant. ] Did someone reprogram it?

[ hang on, he’s going to do a once over with the flashlight of the robot and the area behind it — is there any damage on the robot itself? any blood or anything to suggest it might’ve attacked or been used to attack someone. and is there anything in the area behind it? damage, blood, corpses, anything that the robot could be “guarding” so to speak?

me looking at the omegamart list like TY DID YOU REPROGRAM A ROBOT? ]

The fact that the panel's from the robot. There's no need to remove it for any other reason than to mess with the programming. Or cut a wire or do something to make it act differently. [ and the fact they set the robot from stun to KILL says something. ]

I could leave a note. If I can make it anonymised. Although-- [ he watches it for a moment. ] It looks like it's looking for someone. I don't know if they could use that.

[ risky, but if it's seeking out someone specific it could give a clue for someone -- who would want to target that person? that sort of thing. ] ... Maybe something to warn people to be alert if they come here.

[ he'll bring up his IRIS and take a photograph of the footprints, zooming in on a couple of them. he can't really take a photo of his foot against it for comparison, but he's preserving a copy for now. iiii am aware is this the last comment so he's going to do a quick loop of the overturned chairs and tables to look for anything out of place there, and then he'll take one more photograph of the rage robot seeking and searching for someone to b l e e d. ]

[ hey guess what he

does not like this.

he doesn't like that at all. it'll be really funny if i'm wrong and at endgame ty sees this and is like oi.

they are also just watching this robot go wild and trying to time getting out of here without getting robot gored. fun times. ]

Last week that had locations to go to. If the food court's one of them, it might pop up as a place of interest. Might be able to combo it with that.

And yeah. The... blood isn't a good sign.

[ they did it. they won friday. anyway, yeah he'll ask adrastea to take the panel with them for the evidence table tomorrow. runs to mod dms to ask something. ]
