ROLE — SECURITY PATROL 🔦
SECURITY PATROL
welcome, crewmate shu.
Early in the day on TUESDAY, Shu will hear the familiar ping of the I.R.I.S. at his wrist; the moment that he lifts up his hand to check what the noise is for, a window immediately pops up. The projection fills in a spread of blue, and a message sent only to his designation loads in the window.
I have something of a job for you. Pick a location to set up an off-network camera, to catch anything in the area; if the system is going to pull a stunt on us again, we can certainly work smarter, not harder.
If it does, meet me in the morning after the lockdown ends. I've updated some of your credentials so you should be able to get up before anyone else. We can go get the camera, maybe squeeze in a second location before we have to lock down everything and everyone's awake.

ADRASTEA
Come FRIDAY, early in the morning, a message notification sounds again. It's loud enough that it rouses him from a very groggy sleep before anyone else. No one else even twitches at the sound or the blue light, and there's nobody in the halls the moment Shu steps outside, so might as well head to the location that pops up - right?
It indicates where Shu needs to go to meet Adrastea. The walk there is eerie, and lit only by the emergency lights of the ship - a sickly, golden orange in a strip that barely brightens the dark corners. The senior officer can be found easily there, spinning something almost absently around one finger, the other hand cupping their elbow. Once Shu is close enough, they stop spinning the item in their possession and instead toss it at him for him to catch.
It's a flashlight, one with a strap on the end. Huh. Pretty useful, considering the darkness that surrounds them.
Adrastea taps a flashlight of their own against their shoulder, something serious but enigmatic in their filtered voice as their helmet remains blank, only a faint, cool blue glow just barely visible from within. "Let's go."

RULES
As the role responsible for security patrols, along with the information that is acquired on patrol, Shu is expected to follow a few rules:
1. For now, keep your new designation a secret. Should this designation be shared with anyone without prior authorization, consequences and termination of position are possible. This can be revisited at a later date.
↳ As of w2, you can share your role with ONE non-role person.
2. You may use your knowledge during trial to guide, suggest, or prioritize investigations. If you otherwise distribute any information acquired, it must be done anonymously or without referencing the true source. This can be revisited at a later date.
3. Each week, Security Patrol can do the following:
📹 A. one location can be chosen on Tuesday; this location is where the role can place a video camera, completely separate from the Eudora's system, which is tamperproof and will remain hidden until retrieved.
↳ As of w3, you can place TWO cameras in separate locations.
🔎 B. a second location can be chosen Friday, with two chances to pick again if your choice doesn't get a hit; this is the location which can be investigated before the curfew lockdown is lifted and crime scenes are marked restricted areas prior to being locked down.
Currently, junior crew capsules require a valid explanation as to why you want to check or monitor them, and senior crew capsules are off limits. Anywhere else that has been unlocked on the Eudora is fair game.
4. While patrolling on Friday before lockdown lifts, 1 piece of evidence can be retrieved from the location that you visit. Choose wisely.
↳ As of w3, there is a chance to increase this to TWO pieces of evidence depending on the investigation.
☠️ If Security Patrol finds a dead body, this does not count towards the pieces of evidence that can be retrieved, regardless of whether it's physically located or found in their video log. Adrastea will ensure that the body is brought to trial first thing to give the crew a head start.
5. Once you have completed your patrol, you can choose whether to share the recording (if there is one) anonymously on the public network. If you share it privately, the source of it cannot be revealed at this time.

LUXURIOUS VENUS

ALSO looks at siz we keep giving siz death. this is when it turns out someone else had a spiky little buddy ]
…
What the hell happened in there last night?
no subject
stares down at this, vibrating slightly because two of her CYOAers were there and she's going to absolutely check on them when they lock this location down. ]
A lot. Gods, that place is going to be a disaster to investigate tomorrow.
no subject
So, message that this place needs to be investigated as soon as possible. Looks like half the events of the night took place in there.
[ thinking… ]
The smaller figure at the beginning kicked the person who came in between the legs. I’m gonna go wild and assume the attacker must’ve been a guy then.
no subject
[ but she reaches up and massages her forehead as she goes to replay the punt. ]
I would say probably a fair assumption. A kick like that will hurt anyone, but your first instinct isn't going to be to kick a woman between the legs.

TALK TO ADRASTEA
Got another camera, so you can set up two. We can see about bringing back more evidence, as well, but it'll depend on what we find and how much time that we have to investigate.
What're you thinking?
no subject
Oh, this place had one? [ she’d mentioned she was hoping it would. ] Mm. Have people been asking about the evidence outside of the trial?
[ he knew someone had pressed one of the senior staff about it at the trial, but— this was a secret operation, at the end of the day. ]
Figured the newer locations would be a good place to start again. There’s usually something that happens there, even if it’s just people passing out there so we can narrow down who was or wasn’t involved. It might not be a bad thing to know who wasn’t involved, so I have an idea of who to message.
The spa/hot springs and arcade, maybe?
no subject
Night Market had a variety, but only one that wouldn't be picked up by the Eudora. I spent last night hooking it up to the datapad for you, and you can just keep that in your room now. Or I can hold onto it.
[ sippy ] No one's talked to me about it, but I heard about Ganymede being asked where the snowglobe bits came from, so I figure with your eventual message about someone being up in the morning after the murders and a note indicating where the evidence came from... might be handy. Worth trying to get more evidence, anyways.
[ she uses her foot to swivel her seat back and forth, thinking about it. ]
I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to go to the spa. We'll see if you stay at one of them and continue your trend.
no subject
… Maybe with you. Kazuki’s not nosy, but if he finds it he’ll ask about it and I can imagine that will go poorly. He’ll get mad the less he’s told.
[ that’s his roomie. ] I’ll just do an announcement, or something. Keep it anonymous, but it’ll keep them aware their results might be skewed if they don’t think about their phrasing. The height range ended up being a good choice, but only because it didn’t include me. People will put two and two together than someone’s scoping things out.
[ he sighs. i also sigh because i know we’re spa-ist. ] I’m trying to avoid that this week. I’d rather not put myself in the firing line again. If I just stay in my room I’ll get questioned about staying alone probably.
no subject
... mm, I don't imagine him taking this well. [ she's fond of kazuki, but she can already predict the hurt that would cause him even if she agrees with shu on this. ] I'll hold onto it, you can just come get it when you want it, and I'll bring it on Friday morning anyways.
[ but adrastea reaches out and taps him on the chest with a finger. ]
You really did get lucky that they decided to narrow it down to heights in that way. And if there are other designations out there, then they'll know to be smarter about their choices - I have some suspicions, but I'll let you figure it out and leave it in your hands on whether you decide you want to find them.
But I'll help you throw off suspicion, if you like. Pick somewhere and I'll go with you as witness. It being my week on, they can just confirm with me on Saturday if it's just the two of us.
no subject
and bless kazuki he’s a bean but he’s the angriest, most teen bean out there. ]
Thanks. Weird as it is, the less I have to do with these things during the week, the easier it is to pretend I don’t know what’s going on with them
[ he pulls that face again. he is shamed. ]
Yeah. Probably fair I put out the message as well, keep them out of the firing line too, if there are other people involved. My mess, my solution.
Someone’s handing out those items, aren’t they? The eight ball, the guitar. [ … ] I know I want to keep it secret, so I won’t pry. If they come to me though, I’ll keep their secret.
[ hmm. ] I was thinking of the library, maybe. Or one of the older locations where it could be quieter. I know Rodya, Gregor and Yuri were in the rec room, but I think it was only them that went there. I could swing going to the multiplex again, or something like that if the library’s not a great choice.
no subject
Plausible deniability, but in a more roundabout sort of way. [ amused. but she nods, picking up her drink and giving him a vaguely amused look at the face he makes. good, be shamed. ]
They have to be. I could hazard a guess at which officer might be doing that, from a few, but not anything that I would solidly put a vote towards at the moment. I don't really want to draw much attention to them if I can help it. For the same reason as you wouldn't go spreading a passenger's designation around.
[ hmm. ]
I like the library, so I wouldn't mind there. Or the multiplex. I haven't watched very many films, although Kazuki made our mission group watch some... Jim Bond? Ones. But last Thursday, Metis and I kicked Io out of the medbay to go spend time with the group in the rec room, since they got an invite, and Thebe spent it with Baiken here. [ tapping the bar counter ] So some people would have the same quiet idea as you I imagine.

- Owner
- Rosamund
- Throné
- Temenos
- Ichiban
- Arthur

congrats you found half the fucking game in one curfew location. she raises an eyebrow at seeing so many people here. but it feels like something is a little... off, about the room itself. hard to put your finger on it at first blush. ]
[ one computer is currently awake, rather than in sleep mode or with a running screensaver. another computer looks like it's been blown up. well. this is going to be fun. ]
Let's watch our step.
[ usual five comments, but you might be able to take two pieces of evidence this go around! ]
no subject
[ i genuinely thought half the game would be in the spa. instead four people just went wild IN the spa. lord.
ok well first check first, IS EVERYONE HERE BREATHING?? shakes
once he’s checked that he’ll look over the computers — is there anything in or around the blown up computer? anything like residue or something that might’ve been thrown at it to cause it explode? then he’ll have a look at the computer that isn’t blown up and not saving the screen. what’s on there? a secret message? winning lottery ticket?
and the area around it, is there anything of note? did snow use the gift of prophecy and did we find a body? ]
no subject
[ everyone is breathing! thankfully. some of them have small... pellets? on the ground near them.
no residue that isn't just blown up computer, but there is something on the ground near the fucked up computer. it looks like a pair of the scrap supply sunglasses, at first, before closer inspection shows that it's actually two pairs of the sunglasses fused together due to being kind of melty. the other computer might be on, but it's... password locked! this is unusual; all of the computers are unlocked, typically.
the area around it still looks off. but there's a book down there, a strange dark spot in the carpet, and some drops of blood. no body, you haven't scored that one yet. ]
no subject
[ well, yay for breathing. can he crouch down and have a look at the pellets? what do they look like? any weird smells?
once he’s done that, he’ll have a little look at the sunglasses for any hint of blood or markings that could be consistent with something hitting them. although from where they’re melted, two people might’ve had them knocked off in the blast that hit the computer? confidence, potential sunburn and blasts… noted.
any password hints near the computer…? ]
… Can we bring a whole computer as evidence? Or if we unplug it is it going to mess with whatever reason this is locked?
[ none body… my goal is to find one. imagine if i’d filmed in the library and examined the spa? carpet though. does the dark spot look like blood? does it smell like blood? and what’s the book…? ]
no subject
[ she hates it, but them's the truths.
the pellets... are the training bullets found in the armory. there are five in total. they have been sufficiently doinked nonlethally, although they're going to be feeling that when they wake up in about an hour. luckily didn't hit anything vital, or do worse, considering nonlethal bullets can actually be lethal in the wrong (right?) circumstances.
nothing on the glasses is visible to indicate that they were smacked off, although the way they're melded together implies that they were flush together when this happened. but probably this is something to think about at trial, yeah. sunburn check.
no passcode hints. adrastea glances over. ] ... I'm not sure. I'd say leave it and we can see if Shoma can't do something with it tomorrow, just in case it might compromise anything.
[ it would take us 50 years to get through the spa invest i would not subject you to that.
the book is... not marked, so it's inconsequential except for one thing. when he picks it up, it becomes apparent that the area under it is darker than the area around it, matching the small dark spot nearby and the rest of the carpet in the room save for this area near the computers. the book is also lighter on the side that was exposed compared to the side that was floor down. meanwhile, the dark spot is not blood! it's an area of the carpet that's darker, like the section that was protected by the book. ]
no subject
[ vaguely, he wonders what would happen if you woke up in the same room as your killer.
hmm. training bullets. interesting. sorry to everyone napping in here. ]
… Alright. But the problem still stands if we can’t bring it back and he doesn’t come here initially, although they could just message us and ask if Shoma could come along to look at it.
[ aaaa this spa investigation is going to be something.
…. why is the book two colours, help? is this from being blasted with light/fire or whatever?? is there anything on this dark sport of carpet he should be noting? once he’s done around here he’ll keep wandering. is there anything else he needs to note in this library? ]
