ROLE — SECURITY PATROL 🔦
SECURITY PATROL
welcome, crewmate shu.
Early in the day on TUESDAY, Shu will hear the familiar ping of the I.R.I.S. at his wrist; the moment that he lifts up his hand to check what the noise is for, a window immediately pops up. The projection fills in a spread of blue, and a message sent only to his designation loads in the window.
I have something of a job for you. Pick a location to set up an off-network camera, to catch anything in the area; if the system is going to pull a stunt on us again, we can certainly work smarter, not harder.
If it does, meet me in the morning after the lockdown ends. I've updated some of your credentials so you should be able to get up before anyone else. We can go get the camera, maybe squeeze in a second location before we have to lock down everything and everyone's awake.

ADRASTEA
Come FRIDAY, early in the morning, a message notification sounds again. It's loud enough that it rouses him from a very groggy sleep before anyone else. No one else even twitches at the sound or the blue light, and there's nobody in the halls the moment Shu steps outside, so might as well head to the location that pops up - right?
It indicates where Shu needs to go to meet Adrastea. The walk there is eerie, and lit only by the emergency lights of the ship - a sickly, golden orange in a strip that barely brightens the dark corners. The senior officer can be found easily there, spinning something almost absently around one finger, the other hand cupping their elbow. Once Shu is close enough, they stop spinning the item in their possession and instead toss it at him for him to catch.
It's a flashlight, one with a strap on the end. Huh. Pretty useful, considering the darkness that surrounds them.
Adrastea taps a flashlight of their own against their shoulder, something serious but enigmatic in their filtered voice as their helmet remains blank, only a faint, cool blue glow just barely visible from within. "Let's go."

RULES
As the role responsible for security patrols, along with the information that is acquired on patrol, Shu is expected to follow a few rules:
1. For now, keep your new designation a secret. Should this designation be shared with anyone without prior authorization, consequences and termination of position are possible. This can be revisited at a later date.
↳ As of w2, you can share your role with ONE non-role person.
2. You may use your knowledge during trial to guide, suggest, or prioritize investigations. If you otherwise distribute any information acquired, it must be done anonymously or without referencing the true source. This can be revisited at a later date.
3. Each week, Security Patrol can do the following:
📹 A. one location can be chosen on Tuesday; this location is where the role can place a video camera, completely separate from the Eudora's system, which is tamperproof and will remain hidden until retrieved.
↳ As of w3, you can place TWO cameras in separate locations.
🔎 B. a second location can be chosen Friday, with two chances to pick again if your choice doesn't get a hit; this is the location which can be investigated before the curfew lockdown is lifted and crime scenes are marked restricted areas prior to being locked down.
Currently, junior crew capsules require a valid explanation as to why you want to check or monitor them, and senior crew capsules are off limits. Anywhere else that has been unlocked on the Eudora is fair game.
4. While patrolling on Friday before lockdown lifts, 1 piece of evidence can be retrieved from the location that you visit. Choose wisely.
↳ As of w3, there is a chance to increase this to TWO pieces of evidence depending on the investigation.
☠️ If Security Patrol finds a dead body, this does not count towards the pieces of evidence that can be retrieved, regardless of whether it's physically located or found in their video log. Adrastea will ensure that the body is brought to trial first thing to give the crew a head start.
5. Once you have completed your patrol, you can choose whether to share the recording (if there is one) anonymously on the public network. If you share it privately, the source of it cannot be revealed at this time.

[ i genuinely thought half the game would be in the spa. instead four people just went wild IN the spa. lord.
ok well first check first, IS EVERYONE HERE BREATHING?? shakes
once he’s checked that he’ll look over the computers — is there anything in or around the blown up computer? anything like residue or something that might’ve been thrown at it to cause it explode? then he’ll have a look at the computer that isn’t blown up and not saving the screen. what’s on there? a secret message? winning lottery ticket?
and the area around it, is there anything of note? did snow use the gift of prophecy and did we find a body? ]

[ everyone is breathing! thankfully. some of them have small... pellets? on the ground near them.
no residue that isn't just blown up computer, but there is something on the ground near the fucked up computer. it looks like a pair of the scrap supply sunglasses, at first, before closer inspection shows that it's actually two pairs of the sunglasses fused together due to being kind of melty. the other computer might be on, but it's... password locked! this is unusual; all of the computers are unlocked, typically.
the area around it still looks off. but there's a book down there, a strange dark spot in the carpet, and some drops of blood. no body, you haven't scored that one yet. ]

[ well, yay for breathing. can he crouch down and have a look at the pellets? what do they look like? any weird smells?
once he’s done that, he’ll have a little look at the sunglasses for any hint of blood or markings that could be consistent with something hitting them. although from where they’re melted, two people might’ve had them knocked off in the blast that hit the computer? confidence, potential sunburn and blasts… noted.
any password hints near the computer…? ]
… Can we bring a whole computer as evidence? Or if we unplug it is it going to mess with whatever reason this is locked?
[ none body… my goal is to find one. imagine if i’d filmed in the library and examined the spa? carpet though. does the dark spot look like blood? does it smell like blood? and what’s the book…? ]

[ she hates it, but them's the truths.
the pellets... are the training bullets found in the armory. there are five in total. they have been sufficiently doinked nonlethally, although they're going to be feeling that when they wake up in about an hour. luckily didn't hit anything vital, or do worse, considering nonlethal bullets can actually be lethal in the wrong (right?) circumstances.
nothing on the glasses is visible to indicate that they were smacked off, although the way they're melded together implies that they were flush together when this happened. but probably this is something to think about at trial, yeah. sunburn check.
no passcode hints. adrastea glances over. ] ... I'm not sure. I'd say leave it and we can see if Shoma can't do something with it tomorrow, just in case it might compromise anything.
[ it would take us 50 years to get through the spa invest i would not subject you to that.
the book is... not marked, so it's inconsequential except for one thing. when he picks it up, it becomes apparent that the area under it is darker than the area around it, matching the small dark spot nearby and the rest of the carpet in the room save for this area near the computers. the book is also lighter on the side that was exposed compared to the side that was floor down. meanwhile, the dark spot is not blood! it's an area of the carpet that's darker, like the section that was protected by the book. ]

[ vaguely, he wonders what would happen if you woke up in the same room as your killer.
hmm. training bullets. interesting. sorry to everyone napping in here. ]
… Alright. But the problem still stands if we can’t bring it back and he doesn’t come here initially, although they could just message us and ask if Shoma could come along to look at it.
[ aaaa this spa investigation is going to be something.
…. why is the book two colours, help? is this from being blasted with light/fire or whatever?? is there anything on this dark sport of carpet he should be noting? once he’s done around here he’ll keep wandering. is there anything else he needs to note in this library? ]
no subject
[ maybe there would be less of a chase, but even more chaos? food for thought.
she nods, pulling up her I.R.I.S. and making a frame with her fingers to take a picture of the computer just in case. ] This'll be locked off, so they might think to send the more tech savvy people in here from the get-go. We'll see. If nothing else, one of us can take him after the investigation is over if someone doesn't find any passcode hints anywhere.
[ i truly don't think i could condense all of the chaos in there into five responses for you.
that might be it! in his general investigation of the library, the carpeted areas are darker - this area is lighter, fading into the darker and original carpet color. but the weird dark spoy is oddly shaped, albeit not very big. like something small was here to block off the lightening of the area but was picked up afterwards.
there are wet footprints leading into the library, although they fade out quick enough into faint, partial prints before there's nothing :wet: anymore. additionally, there's blood droplets leading out of the library, starting close to the area that was lightened near the computers. ]

...
[ help. well. we know someone's injured now, possibly by the blast. so, sunburn and injuries. yahoo. i wonder if both the killer and victim had the glasses as there are two pairs melted together.
what else is there to look at here, i say on my fourth comment. can he do a loop of the room to look for anything that might be of note for quick summary purposes? ]
no subject
[ with. western movies and then her being awake for an hour after shu. it's fine. maybe his track record will get better?
not much else to notice, here, it seems. the blood drops on the floor look to have a bit of splatter, a sort of wandering pattern that drip drops under the table the computers are on top of near where the book and sunglasses were found, but then it makes its way out of the entrance where the wet footprints come in and they entered from. ]
no subject
It was pretty nice, even if the time's impossible to see a full movie in.
[ thinks. do the sunglasses count as two pieces of evidence? because he's definitely taking those. otherwise uh... maybe a photo of the discoloured carpet compared to the area around it and the book? ]
