Throne: with your 10, you you get a couple of good stabs and slices down on the zombies, though they also get some swipes at you back -- nothing too serious, but probably a slash in your arm, a pickaxe snagging your side.
Baiken: with your 18, you go mad with power. She can take the lead, mowing down the icy neighbours with her sword with ease, overpowering a particularly large and particularly buggy undead zombie soldier who should've been trouble, but she manages to come out of it unscathed.
Charles: Rip, my guy. So the funny thing is that your counter-roll was a 5, so it's just bad on top of more bad. An icy dead hand grabs your ankle and it burns on contact, the sensation so cold that it leaves a hand-shaped frostburn on your leg. You stumble and fall from the grab. That's probably going to bruise, too.
Loveless Lovelace: The rear is its own dangerous place to be, having to deal with stragglers who may have come in from the side. The good thing is that at least your 16 keeps you highly alert, able to shout commands and finally be that girlboss you were always meant to be, because somebody else will handle it for you if you give the order. Namely:
Ichiban: It's him. He rolls an 18 and fucking does an awesome jump-kick in these fucks' faces. It looks awesome, it feels awesome, and because the other zombo rolled a 4, Ichiban can watch as the necro-roach-neighbour abomination's pickaxe stabs another in the chest as it flies back, pinning down two for one.
[While they contend with the enemies closest to them along the way...
Up ahead, something is beginning to happen between your party and the Bough's location. There are giant, manicured hands beginning to descend from the sky, spattered with frost and gore when they lift again after having crushed several zombies and roaches each.
They move intermittently, not in sync with each other; there's no pattern, only the occasional methodical squelch of a hand coming down to take them out.
The groups further ahead are beginning to scatter and panic, shouting. That's going to be a problem, when it comes to dodging them and the hands.]
[ baiken takes the lead, and with the power of 17, will make her way further ahead, doing that stupid anime samurai run. you've all seen it. any bugmen get in her way? she rolled a 17 what are you gonna do about it. ]
it's okay she's fine. she's going to try and duck and dodge the hands with a 15, and just steer clear of the groups of zombies entirely, but she will step in to help... where she has to... watches charles and lovelace splatter. she's trying to stick to the shadows but there aren't MANY.]
[ the fuck did i roll, a 13? yeah. okay with a roll of 13 and pretending that i was here in the first place he's just following along to try and dodge hands and also punch anything that might be in his way with his robot arm. ]
[ Throne: 15 Yeah it's kind of hard to find static shadows when there's the Golden Bough, growing ever-brighter with every step you take towards it. It doesn't help when these hands keep coming up and down, throwing shadows places, crushing monsters right in front of your eyes, with all this blood everywhere -- but Throne manages to keep her sanity intact, steering clear and being perfectly safe.
Baiken: Baiken does the world's coolest naruto run ahead, slicing down a clear path for them all. The nice thing about this is that currently, frozen mutated soldiers are not your problem! She can even stab a few hands, although whether that does much is nebulous. Whose hands are these, anyway.
Charles: Well. That is a nat1. So unfortunately, because Charles tripped earlier, you guys can actually witness him getting straight up smashed by a hand. He's just a pancake when the hand lifts, a terrible smear of blood. Well thank the lord you guys have your rewind ability.
Lovelace: With Isabel's 4, you were uncomfortably close to Charles when that happened. While you avoid becoming a FULL smashed egg like he did, she gets to experience the horrid nature of having HALF of her body crushed. Uh, yikes. That's going to smart.
Ichiban: Again though, lucky you guys have that rewind ability, because Ichiban will rewind the clock for you, getting to see the doors to Hell for himself. They are large and imposing, but the power of friendship spurs him on. He can find Charles's hands from the masses and pull him out. You also learn a neat trick while you're doing this -- he can also reverse Isabel's injury before she full on dies for real, making her whole again. Gotta keep moving.
Shoma: Shoma's 13 manages to keep him out of harm's way, though it's still a very harrowing journey as it is. The entire basement is shaking, rumbling, icicles drop from the ceiling. He can guard against some of these falling icicles, protecting his groupmates with his metal arm. It's gotta be good for something!
[The hands continue to come down, seemingly a little more targeted on you now, like they're beginning to zero in after squishing these zombies and bugs at random--
And as they continue to do this, the tremors grow worse. You can feel a small shake with each hand that comes down, but... the impacts of the hands aren't the source of the major rumbling. They're just adding to it, dislodging more icicles from the ceiling as they come down, keeping the ground shaking disruptively.
You can hear some of the monsters crying out for help-- half-squished and dying, perhaps fleeing with a limb or two broken off, or simply screaming as a hand comes down on top of them. Now that you're in the thick of it... that's becoming your background noise.]

[ Throne: Well... you can certainly try. She can reach for corpses that look strangely like Eunhyuk, like Viktor -- didn't she try this before, already? She's sure she saw them earlier. Maybe a little less frostbitten, a little less mutated, less covered in bandages. The deeper they get, the closer they get to the Bough, the more their CR distorts into these rime-ridden and mutated things. She can reach for them, and they'll reach for her, but something always snatches them away -- these massive hands from the sky. She's lucky enough that she doesn't get crushed under, even as the tremors leave her footing unsteady.
Baiken: Indeed the hands cannot catch Baiken who is truly balling with the power of lesbian strength. She can slash at falling icicles and slabs of ice where there aren't frostbitten zombies. She is doing a REALLY good job at making sure their pacing remains consistent and undisturbed!
Ichiban: Ichiban manages to retain his sanity, for better or worse. He is drinking deep of the Copium. The burning in his chest grows stronger, as does it for everybody else.
Lovelace: Sorry Ichiban did revert your injuries it was in his section. Yours, Charles, and Shoma's are going to be a bit of a mix here, because:
Charles, Lovelace, Shoma: So, Charles just got squashed and Isabel got half-crushed before Ichiban reached into Hell to reverse this. With how they were just brought back to life, this is going to be pretty rough on them though, and it looks like they're about to get crushed underhand again. Easy targets, right? Sitting ducks as they are, just regaining their footing and their middling rolls. Except, Shoma summons the strength in his tiny body and the mechanical arm leftover from his Screwloose Wallop, winding that arm and sending a power-punch right into the oncoming palm so hard that he actually manages to get it to flinch and retreat.

Any CR you try to pick up or save along the way are massacred by the zombies or by the hands. After a bit, you honestly start suspecting that whatever this place is, whoever that hand belongs to, it might be doing this to you on purpose.
[You proceed deeper, and deeper, while these hands continue to pick off the people you know and care about. Every time you succeed at dragging one out of the way, moments later... they're squashed to nothing anyway.
