THE INSTANT RESPONSE INTERACTIVE SYSTEM
The Instant Response Interactive System, or "I.R.I.S." for short, is a gift that the new crew will find themselves equipped with upon release from the stasis bay. The I.R.I.S. is prepared via nanite integration that attunes the I.R.I.S. to the user's neural impulses, allowing for max efficiency and one-handed usage while on the road. From texting and receiving messages to and from fellow crew and Supervisors, to taking photographs, the I.R.I.S. has proven to be a crew member's best friend. Accessing functions and apps is just as easy as counting one, two, three!
🛰️ Can we hack the I.R.I.S.?
No, you cannot hack the I.R.I.S. in any capacity. If there is any attempt made to hack your device or someone else's, you or that person will receive a sharp (harmless) electroshock. This will intensify with repeated attempts. If your character insists on continuing to try and hack, they will eventually be locked out of their I.R.I.S. and must see a senior crew member for unlocking.
🛰️ Can the I.R.I.S. be removed from my body?
No. The I.R.I.S. corresponds to company brand nanites implanted in the new crew prior to awakening from cryosleep (a mandatory service we provide all of our employees). Should you lose the limb with your I.R.I.S. attached to it, these nanites will still be active inside of your bloodstream, but will reroute to your other available arm or remaining limb to reconnect with the I.R.I.S.
🛰️ What can I do with the I.R.I.S.?
"What can't you do with the I.R.I.S." is the question you should really be asking. Your device has a number of functions to make your stay aboard the Eudora that much easier. Each of these functions is accessible with finger motions and hand gestures to manipulate and activate them. Below are the functions your Instant Response Interactive System is capable of:
✏️ Callsign: When you first open up the I.R.I.S. functions, you'll be prompted to select a callsign. This will be used as your username, internal email address, and during deliveries to protect your identity. You only have three chances to input a work-appropriate callsign before you're locked out and one will be automatically generated for you. This cannot be changed after it's been set, so choose wisely! (Ask the mods if you're not sure what's "work-appropriate" or if your character is a clown and we'll be happy to work with you! Alternatively, you can also "accidentally" auto-generate one, as the Eudora systems will happily lock in something for you based on the information it has on you.)
👋 Biometric Lock: Your phone is programmed to respond to the nanites in your body and therefore will only unlock to its owner's touch. (It is, after all, inside of you.)
🥺 Emojis: A wide selection of emojis as well as a sticker shop where you can download digital sticker packs. This does also include kaomoji capabilities.
💬 Messages: Swipe horizontally through the air with your palm to reveal a keyboard projection and select the Messenger app from the options. This will also allow you to read your past convos.
🗒️ Notes: Swipe horizontally through the air with your palm to reveal a keyboard projection and select the Notebook app from the options. The Notebook has an autosave function in place.
⌨️ Adaptable Keyboard Projection: Want a big, computer-standard keyboard? You got it. Want a more manageable, phone-sized keyboard for legitimate texting in the palm of your hands? Done. This applies to all applications that utilize typing.

🦚 JUNOboard: An app that allows users to adjust their settings when using the interactive JUNOboard in the observation deck's lounge. This includes brush type, size, and color; whether a project is private or a collaboration; and enabling the I.R.I.S. keyboard to be synced to the interactive wall for those that would rather type or dictate their additions to the board.
📸 Camera: Create a frame with your index fingers and thumbs around your desired shot and say "cheese!"
📻 Music Player: To access our intergalactic music library, raise both of your index fingers like a conductor's baton and activate the digital library. Where is the music playing from? Don't think too hard about it.
👾 Games: Holding both hands up like you're holding a controller, tap your thumbs to bring up the game library. At the moment, there's only Tetris, Space Invaders, Snake, Suika, Infinity Craft, and something called ClanGen.

🌈 Auto-Translate: While the nanite injection allows you to auto-translate spoken languages - you can bypass this both ways if you concentrate or there's intent in the word(s) (ie; sensei staying sensei) - it doesn't apply to written text. You can, however, pull up an app in the I.R.I.S. that will scan and translate for you.
📱 Data Transfer: If in possession of a datapad, it is possible to sync your information from the I.R.I.S. to the datapad. You just need to get your hands on one.

🛰️ Are my messages private on the I.R.I.S.?
Your messages on the I.R.I.S. are yours and yours alone. Even if you pull up your holographic screen and keyboard, everything is protected by a digital privacy screen overlay that will prevent anyone beside you or behind you from seeing what you're up to. You may, however, share your screen purposefully, which the I.R.I.S. will recognize with the flick of your fingers. This security is not 100% guaranteed if the information from your I.R.I.S. has been synced to a less secure datapad. However... Upper management and Nut & Bolt IT can obviously read your messages.

HER-MES SYSTEM
THE VOICES OF THE VAST AND DEEP VOID
Unlike I.R.I.S. the HER-MES System is an intergalactic collaboration on deep space communication and is not owned by one entity. Using the 550th iteration communication latency mitigator, termed "Limitless," the HER-MES system allows people from across the stars to share a message on a HYPER-cloud platform.
Currently, HER-MES does not have a navigation system accurate enough to deliver private messages past 1 light-skip away (███ international units). Sending a complete message past 1 light-skip far to a coordinate and specific individual would cause delivery latency which could take a lifetime to receive, then a lifetime to send. Both the sender and recipient must own at least a 1860th generation Tracking and Data Relay Satellite ($███████████████████) for a 42-month delay. The farther apart they are, the more advanced technology required.

If I.R.I.S. is like your smartphone, then HER-MES is more like a public social media app, but for deep space. It's populated by messages from all over the however many galaxies out there. Characters can send their messages to deep space and it'll show up on the HER-MES platform. HTML text version may be found in the comments here.
🛰️ Message type?
HER-MES is a text-based platform, but input can be: 1) thought, 2) emotion, 3) voice, 4) text, but it is translated into text. TTT Thought to Text, ETT Emotion to Text, VTT Voice to Text, T... T...ext. The messages are anonymous unless you leave a signature.
🛰️ Do messages have to be purposeful?
No. Your character can buttdial because I think it's funny. If your character has a very coherent thought or strong feeling and you want that to go out in space, then go ahead. Submit IC and OOC messages here. Examples and explanation will be found on the form.
🛰️ How many can I send? Is there a limit?
As many times as you want, Space Cowboy. HER-MES has the bandwidth of more galaxies than I can imagine because it's fiction. However, for OOC expectations, any messages submitted past 7 PM PST / 10 PM EST will be rolled over to the next day.
