GRAVEYARD.

GR͏∀VE̴Y͞A̵ЯD     13 DECOMMISSIONED
t̀h̡e u͝nḑerbe̸l͞l̵y ̸o͜f th̴è ̡şh̷i͠p.

Crushing pressure is the initial sensation you can recall upon awakening. The stench of fetid, hot steam fills your nose, motes of dust and dirt floating upwards to cling to your skin. Down you are pulled to the cold ground, and all at once you realize you have forgotten to breathe. As you gasp back to life, you are flung onto a pile of scraps and trash, as the enormous machine that spat you out grumbles a little, and then goes silent. You are whole somehow, alive... but at what cost?

Popping out of the grinder, you look yourself over and find that any injuries you may have incurred during your death will be healed. While the scars that remain from the process will serve as a stark reminder, you will be able to get up on your own two feet without issue.

Thin, tapering metal (?) claws unhook from overhead and lower themselves, proceeding to guide you around. Your clothing starts sticking uncomfortably to your skin in the humidity of this strange, new place. Overhead you can hear the tinny humming of flickering lights overhead, arranged in a singular, thin strip and snaking around the serpentine halls. Along exposed pipes, wires, and the walls, a rust-colored substance creeps in web-like patterns, climbing towards the ceiling lights.

The deep grinding and groaning of the ship begin to meld into one low, deep moan from all around. It dips and rises in pitch, and becomes sickening to listen to if you focus on it for too long. Maybe, it's the ship's way of saying Welcome, to the underbelly of the CSS Eudora, home of the decommissioned.
Some things to keep in mind, while amongst the dead:

💀 Mini-events will be posted on WEDNESDAY at 3 PM EST / 12 PM PST and 6 PM EST / 3 PM PST, and are due at the same time they are for the living. Any changes to the schedule will be announced in the graveyard channels.

💀 Weekly effects will still hit you here, in the belly of the ship. Mods will make sure to announce any special changes based on being the graveyard; otherwise, please assume everything is 1:1!

💀 While not perfect, there is a healing factor in place. It is extremely sluggish, uncomfortable, and does not negate the fact that you're injured and likely in pain. If the injury is too severe, you might wind up dying from it if left untreated. Again. If you have a pre-existing condition like an illness that has been exacerbated by factors beyond your control, you will find that for the time being these symptoms are at their most minor.

💀 That said, while double death is possible, you'll find yourself reviving after 4 hours fully healed, but feeling like complete garbage for the rest of the day. Message your mods if you find yourself getting killed while dead, though! There might be a special surprise involved.

💀 Your possessions, minus clothing besides what you're wearing now, can be found in the bunk pods and their storage. Yes, while it might not include clothes, it does include any Omegamart Promotional Items, Scrap purchases, home items, etc that you were in possession of. if you had a lot of things, the cubby might jam or have difficulty closing. Better organize. If you arrive on Saturday during trial, belongings will return at the end of trial.

💀 Communications, while you cannot text via I.R.I.S., you can still send messages through HER-MES. All other functions for I.R.I.S. are available along with direct data transfers. Dead can send private letters to the living! An inbox can be accessed from the family computer at the canteen. If you find it locked, it is because we are updating it.

💀 Living livestream is broadcasted on the TV screen in the canteen!
✔️ Upgraded Quality ✔️ Audio ✔️ Translit Captions that sometimes fuck up ✔️ Dramatic panning ❌ Color

💀 Planet locations are free to use! Upon the Eudora landing planetside, you will find that as you meander through the various parts of the Belly you may run into one of locations of the current planet instead of where you were meaning to go. These locations are indeed still populated, but the people are more like wisps and will not react much to any conversation. Though you can interact with stuff there you cannot take anything with you out of the location "rooms".

Interesting hypocritical line of questioning.

[he does prefer straightforwardness, and it's why he matches it in turn.]

Do you think that he didn't consent to the experiment? Are you assuming he appealed to me to stop?

[Well really what he thinks is that neither of them can be trusted with a rational understanding of experiment limits and they probably need intensive therapy but that's neither here nor there]

Do you want me to answer those questions directly, or do you want to know what I actually think?

It's easier to make statements than ask me questions you don't actually want answers to.

[considering how pointed those questions felt]

If you want to argue with me, don't beat around the bush.

You're assuming I wasn't asking genuinely.

[Even a week spent with no one but each other is still only a week, after all. He likes to think he's a good detective, a strong judge of character, but he wouldn't claim he has a perfect grasp on their relationship. Maybe if they were from his world, operating within the boundaries of his preexisting notions--but they aren't, so he tries to pull back.

(Usually. When a nerve gets touched, on the other hand--well, here they are.)]

I think you're both idiots. [OKAY,] You don't pay enough attention, or you think results are more important, whatever it is--and he fakes it too much. [FROM ONE BIG FAKER TO ANOTHER!! HE SEES YOU DAHUT YOU BIG-EYED JELLYBEAN.

He knows doesn't know them like they know each other--but Scien wasn't there to see Dahut watching the trial. He wasn't there four hours ago as Dahut clutched a ball of bloody clothes as his hands grew colder and colder.]

I can't stop you two from doing what you want. [Because you are MAD SCIENTISTS with revival power oh lawd... but also because it's not his business to interfere with what they do to themselves or each other. But if he's going to be around to see the aftermath, then he's going to be being blunt, like Scien wants.] But I'm telling you that it's not as simple as "if I die, everyone else will get over it." It hurts him to see you hurt, whether it was worth it in the end or not.

[there's a moment where scien honestly gets irritated at being called an idiot - the twitch in his brow is obvious enough, but he's not emotional enough to take the bait. not when he just called luke out days ago for being upset at having a question answered. rationally, he asked for this.

rationally, he explains.]

I don't expect him to get over it. When he died, even when I was the cause, I was not—and am not over it. That is the burden of allowing someone in, and we both know that.

[because it is the truth, he has no hesitation in admitting this. their relationship is twisted and difficult to understand on the outside, but that doesn't make it any less important to them on the inside. because they have known each other so long, isn't it plainly obvious their deaths would upset each other?]

I never claimed that it would be simple, but I know factually he is capable of carrying on without me. He confirmed it before I died. [because that's the only thing scien needed to hear before he took the risk. that they will still carry on. it is part of why he allows dahut to remain next to him at all.] I do not forget. I do care.

Risking my life is still worth it, but it's not something I choose lightly. You can dislike it, but don't misunderstand my reasoning.

[

admittedly this only applies to dahut. scien does thinks that literally everyone else in the graveyard would and should get over it if he died]

[Scien may be ultra rational--but Luke, for all his own tight control, is not so bound to logic. He crosses his arms loosely over his chest as Scien talks, and it's clear from his expression that he's evaluating. Overinvested? Maybe. But he isn't thinking about that. Mostly, he's thinking that both of these maniacs need emotional people around to remind them of what normalcy is. EUNHYUK PROBABLY KNOWS A THERAPY BUT HE'S CURSED TO LINEFACE FOREVER. IS IT UP TO LUKE? OR VASH? OH GOD.

Grudgingly--]

At least try to show it. [He doesn't like it, because it still hits far too close to home. But he does believe Scien, so that's enough, for now.] He'd wait around for you for days, you know. People say they can do a lot of things until they actually have to.

[Not that he thinks Dahut is lying--just that he doubts even Dahut truly knows what he'd do if Scien were to be gone forever, especially by his own hands.]
egodist: (✧ so get ready i'm here)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-03-14 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

[help me. his answer is so simple, so quick. but his reasoning behind it is similarly plain:] I'm not interested in being understood by everyone. The ones who need to know already get it. I'll provide answers where asked, but asking me to be more emotional is an overstep.

[even before scien was a reliver, he wasn't very emotional. that's called being a psychopath, but here we are.]

I don't need a lecture on how to interact with someone I've known for twice as long as you've been alive.
rav3n: (luke29)

[personal profile] rav3n 2024-03-15 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
[The way Luke was irritated and then relaxed and now is immediately irritated again

It's tempting to pick a fight, to keep pressing the issue--but it's their business, in the end. Luke isn't so devoted to peacekeeping that he'll hold his tongue, but he has no interest in being actively hostile, either. He said the most important part already.]

Think what you want. [He doesn't bother acknowledging most of Scien's words; he's already made it clear he doesn't care about Scien's idea of "overstepping," and as much as the age comment annoys him, he knows that he'd be even more annoyed at himself for letting it get to him. So instead, he shoves his hands in his pockets, turning to leave.] But when you regret it in the future, don't say nobody warned you.
egodist: (✧ take my hand)

It's best to stop pretending like you care about my well-being just because you're having trouble working out your own hang-ups, Busybody.

[since scien has a feeling that this is less about himself and dahut—who are clearly fine, have already reached their understanding, and will proceed on as far as anyone else is concerned—and more about the thoughts of someone who has a far more contentious relationship with death.

but he's already said it - he's not someone who's easy to feel sympathy toward. he doesn't expect it. but he also doesn't think he has to sit through lectures instead.

a hand is waved dismissively. goodbye.]
