[ they actually catch adrastea without her helmet, as she's making her way up into the cargo bay; she looks up to them, and there's a soft whirring noise as her cybernetic eyes focus, helmet off and VR headset loosely held in her hands. she looks between the two of them, blinking slowly, intake of her eyes tightening like a camera lens as she looks at them. ]
okay i'm sorry everyone here knows he's a normal teenager and it means shoma is just sort of staring at adrastea for a second and stunned by how pretty she is in person. i'm just getting that out of the way. anyway, he is very quickly over that and nods in greeting. ]
Hey, Adrastea. We're, uh, back with another datapad? It's not as bad as the one Temenos had, but figured it wouldn't hurt to bring it to you to check it out.
Me and Shu found this at Waste Disposal-- which, uh, for the record, not a great experience? I think that was one of the worse hallucinations I've been through.
[ if adrastea notices that shoma is being a teenage boy, she doesn't indicate it. instead, she sets aside the VR headset so that she can take the datapad from gregor, shifting her stance to cock a hip and tap on it so that she can load up the journals and the video. ]
What happened while you were there? [ frowning. as if things aren't bad enough.
but she does - pause, as she looks down at the datapad from the two of them. her expression pinches, and she taps a finger on the diamond that's used as a signature at the end of the journal. ] ... I wrote this. These are my logs.
[ he's going to let gregor explain that part, gesturing to indicate that it was his exploration and not shoma's. he's watching her work though, frowning to himself. ]
...that was the impression I got when Gregor showed me, yes. And it's why we thought it would be best to bring to you directly instead of any of the other senior crew. Even if you might not fully remember the context.
... this place is getting worse and worse as time goes on, and it was already terrible.
[ she's frowning down as she reads over the first entry, before - snapping her fingers on her free hand, a sudden realization. she hasn't started the video yet. ]
Does one of you have the crew roster on your I.R.I.S.? I know that was going around. Give me the full names for Truegust, Nera, Bradley, and Commonbrook.
[ unpromising that even senior crew acknowledges shit sucks. but he nods! and he's pulling up his iris. ]
Uh... Althalos Truegust, Nera Cheswright, Abigail Bradley and...Gloriana Commonbrook, it looks like. I think that's what's been worked out. [ ... ] Gregor if you don't have this I can send you a copy, actually.
Truegust was my superior officer, before I was promoted. [ her expression is still pinched, though now there's a twinge of pain to it. ] ... my last memories of him were fake. I thought he was promoted to run security for the main galactic hub for Nut & Bolt.
I don't remember what actually happened to him.
[ she reaches up to massage her forehead, staring down at the names and thinking. ]
Another name - Rowntree. Working with Ganymede, that's probably a member of the command crew... and Bradley with Metis, that'd be the staff officers.
[reading over shoma's shoulder while he takes notes.]
... and is there anything you can do about the part of this recording that's kind of messed up? I'm not sure if it's something you can get past, or if it's just corrupted data.
[ to gregor, first, because that's easier: ] I can hook it up to the security room's system and decrypt it. It'll take me a little while, as Shoma and Temenos can attest to, but it shouldn't take too long.
[ but... she does shake her head to shoma's questions. ]
No. Before the month gap between tours, at least, but I can't say for certain when the haze over our memories is still rather thick. [ she does start the video, though, after bracing herself for the migraine she's going to have - but she pauses after seeing the unknown people. ] Show the early part of this video to Io, Amalthea, and Thebe. Run through the names from this datapad with them, see if they can put a name to the faces here.
None of them are Truegust, so far, but I think the red-headed woman is Commonbrook if she was working in the medbay with Io. [ she's using context clues from her past self, here. ]
Yeah. This one doesn't seem as bad as what Temenos found, at least, but I do remember we had to leave it with you for a bit. Hopefully it won't be too messy.
[ but he frowns in thought. so it's a split like that, huh. ]
That answers at least one part. [ he turns to gregor. ] I can come with you to talk to them, too, if you want. But I trust you if you want to approach them on your own. It'd be good to have some clarity and at least put pieces together.
... no, the damages here aren't as corrupted. Just concerning. But it might help to work through these pieces together. Worth spreading around - and the more we see, the longer time goes on, the more we tend to remember and that we can tell you.
[ she's watching the rest of the video now, and while she doesn't look disturbed she does look. unhappy. serious. ]
Nera Cheswright... probably also with Ganymede and Rowntree, if they were going to keep an eye on her after whatever the hell this is. I don't - remember what it was she was eating. We'd collected samples before a storm knocked out our primary power, part of a request as a side mission, but I'm not sure if that's what it was or something else.
... there's a place, back where I'm from. It plays tricks with your mind. Maybe that was what I thought of, in this second written entry.
[ that's disconcerting. but he nods in agreement because he's pretty sure all of them are willing to share things by now just to find answers. ]
There's a lot about this galaxy none of us really understand. So it would make sense to relate it to something you know. [ ... ] Who was assigning these missions? Do you remember that?
[ the answer may very well just be n&b but he would like to confirm. ]
No, it wasn't flowers. [ offers this to gregor immediately ] The sound... it was something heavier. More solid.
[ it's missing from the video, as-is, due to the glitches - and she can't think of how to describe it further, but she's sure of this. ]
The missions came to us assigned through Nut & Bolt, typically. Whether they legitimately came from the company or through another means is something I would call into question, at this point, but we have no way of confirming considering how long it took us to hear from some nobody named Jeff.
I'm both relieved and disappointed it's not flowers, if only because it opens up a whole new line of questioning. [ he furrows his eyebrows together. ] Seriously though who the hell is Jeff. Is he even a real employee?
Is there even any way to tell? I'd figure anybody could just call themselves Jeff and say they're an employee, if they've got the right kind of access to channels and everything.
No, there's no way to tell. The same as there's no way to tell if correspondence or our missions that we're given to clear up galactic storms are from Nut & Bolt.
The only thing we can guarantee are the Eudora's AI, when it does announcements or sends out alerts, and our own messages from the Senior Crew. Io is the one that writes the ones that you all receive at the start of the week when we make planetfall.
That's good to know where those are coming from, at least. [ ... ] And I guess there's no progress at all in trying to reach anybody else? Not even Nut & Bolt, just anyone else at all to see who we can communicate with about the problems the Eudora's facing.
W4 WEDNESDAY
Hello, boys.

[he's not thinking about how pretty she is because she's not rodya? but damn, he can still be polite.
greg has this with him, passing it over to her.]

We figured your expertise applies either way, 'ne?
[and as for the experience:]
Terrible story short: some creature with no bones crawled out of a hole in the door, caught us, and chewed us up.

[nodding along with all this.]
I already talk to those three, so I can go bother 'em. Think this gives me a decent idea of what to ask about.
[he wanted shoma here to help initially though...]

Shoma, if it was flowers I'm gonna lose my marbles.
[he's just. he's just saying. why is everything flowers lately what is the DEAL with them. bro they do not even really have those at home.]
And were the missions anything like the ones we've been seeing on this trip?
