well, the ship itself can be used as a weapon via battering ram. cannons and arrows - including flaming ones - would be used for long range, though a lot of naval warfare where i'm from involves fighting in close quarters when you manage to board the enemy's ship. not sure if that would apply here.

You would be correct. We should to avoid as much close quarter battle as possible. Some of you are experienced in combat, but some less.

Projectiles were never to my personal taste, but it's difficult to argue against their efficacy.

yeah. in the end, it doesn't matter if you never hit an individual if you can just tank the ship itself, right?

from the way you put it, it doesn't sound like we'd be fighting other ships, which complicates some things, but it's still true on our end. doesn't matter how good our weapons are if the ship itself gets wrecked in close quarters, so fighting from a distance is ideal. i take it we don't have smaller ships we can send out in the event of combat?

Felling many is ideal.

In a different age, intergalactic bandits would be a concern, but laws and treaties have kept space relatively safe. We do have some small ships meant for evacuations and scouting, if the occasion calls for it. Their firepower isn't that of the Eudora, but they're faster. I should change some of the controls to be layman-friendly.

sounds like that'd be for the best. in worst case scenario for evacuation, we can't count on always having an expert on hand.

is scouting something the senior crew takes care of, or is there any chance any of us would be tasked with it?

If scouting is necessary to clear up the path, then a senior crew member will go with a small group of regular crew members. Sometimes there will be less debris that won't need the power of Eudora's energy cannons and lasers and instead the smaller ships will do.

i'd be interested in seeing that in action, but i guess it'd be best if i never had to, huh?

Scouting ahead for threats would be unlikely as our route takes the safest path, but we still may need to go out to clear some debris. Space weather can be volatile and move objects around.

As a warning, don't try escaping your contract using the scouting ships. Making an enemy out of the company would be a mistake.

well, i wasn't thinking about doing that until you said it just now, but don't worry, i'm not THAT confident in my solo sailing abilities.
