We've discussed with quite a lot of you regarding Thursday's, I had only assumed you all had shared it amongst yourselves?
[ Do you guys not talk........... ]
I'm afraid all the security issues are not my line of expertise, at least with a ship like this. You'd get a more clear understanding by speaking with Adrastea themselves. [ Senior Crew in charge of Security and all. ] To summarize Thursday, it was possibly a malfunction. Lockdowns of that kind are restricted to long jumps - which we will only enact between planets.
So, for example, once our business concludes on Strihiria, we will be enacting a long jump to the next planet for delivery. It's possible that there was a bug that pushed that schedule a week earlier but I am not sure if Adrastea has found anything regarding that, and the other option would be it detected an anomaly but nothing was detected in the reports.
No, I already knew all that. [IN FACT HE TALKED WITH YOU ABOUT IT!!] I wanted to know if you'd figured out anything more than that, or if we're still in the "well, we know nothing" stage. You don't think there's anything weirder about that bug, especially after today?
[ THAT'S WHY I WAS CONFUSED AHHHHH STOP MAKING ME REPEAT LORE JAN ]
I had thought it strange since the first. The Eudora is an old ship, she takes some waking up and getting everything ready in between tours. But that mistake on Thursday should never have happened. And certainly we can surmise today's lockdown as a precaution because of what events unfolded, but it should still have allowed access to the Senior Crew.
[ A sigh. ] At this rate, I find it may just be easier to arrange an overhaul with some of our systems.
Well, with any luck, an overhaul will help, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to hold my breath. They say twice is a coincidence, three is a pattern—and arguably, we're already past number three.
[...]
Be real with me here—I know this is unprecedented for you guys too, but how much would you bet on something like this happening again?
And it's certainly too short notice to move ships. So we may just have to make do.
[ Which is tiring. Exhausting. ]
...Considering plenty of events that have traversed in the past week have been a first in my time stationed, I feel the possibility of something like this happening again is high. I would wish for nothing more than to be optimistic and consider it a fluke but I find it difficult to think that true.
Since we will be docking planetside this coming week, we should be in a better position regarding communication. So ideally we will receive word from them.
[ Fragmented thoughts come through, a word... anything... before they shake their helm. Everyone should go on strike. ]
The company is far too comfortable leaving their ships to their own devices at this rate, as long as the contracted work gets done.
"Ideally" is the keyword there, I'm guessing. [yeah!! go on strike!! he shrugs, still wry.] I'm familiar with leaders like that. Guess that type is universal, if it's easier for them.
[...]
By the way, how are you guys holding up? I know it's tense between the senior crew and junior crew, since—to be frank—we're still gauging how much we can count on you guys, but I'm guessing it's been a pretty rough few days for you too.
They are the kind of leaders undeserving, not meant to lead. What is the purpose of leading if you cannot try and provide?
[ ...A sigh, shaking their head as their emotions simmer to a controlled easy composure. ]
It's to be expected some kind of rift may form between the two when one believes they are not meant to be and the other has a contract they must strictly follow. I have many years of experience in dealing with disputes and tensed situations in the past, so I am managing. As the others are dealing it as best they can.
I do. It's a way for me to get the knowledge I seek, an opportunity to research in matters important to me, and I enjoy working otherwise.
[ Though the feeling of that enjoyment for work, any contentment for that matter feels like it's underwater. Murky. ]
...When a civilization faces a sudden change, it takes some reassuring and a gentle hand when you know it's for the greater good. You can't just force it onto them. Small introductions, giving them the opportunity to be heard.. work with them and not against. [ A distant feeling of wistfulness. ] Anything more specific I am afraid I cannot delve too much into.
[ A pause. ] There are people - worlds I wish to protect. Which is precisely why I accepted this opportunity to come here. A chance to be able to find a way to protect and save, with how advanced things are here.

And what's the chances of the upper management doing anything helpful about it?

Mm... what kind of disputes and situations have you dealt with before?
