You're not wrong about that. I also didn't know his brother that well, either, or what they're both capable of. What I know is that Vash has stopped him before, so I'm putting my trust in him.
I don't think we need it going forward since the ship can run fine without it. There were things we could make from it, but... Mister Viktor's auction item works similarly in the very case we need something like the tesseract. Of course we'd ask first.
