ROLE — SECURITY PATROL 🔦
SECURITY PATROL
welcome, crewmate shu.
Early in the day on TUESDAY, Shu will hear the familiar ping of the I.R.I.S. at his wrist; the moment that he lifts up his hand to check what the noise is for, a window immediately pops up. The projection fills in a spread of blue, and a message sent only to his designation loads in the window.
I have something of a job for you. Pick a location to set up an off-network camera, to catch anything in the area; if the system is going to pull a stunt on us again, we can certainly work smarter, not harder.
If it does, meet me in the morning after the lockdown ends. I've updated some of your credentials so you should be able to get up before anyone else. We can go get the camera, maybe squeeze in a second location before we have to lock down everything and everyone's awake.

ADRASTEA
Come FRIDAY, early in the morning, a message notification sounds again. It's loud enough that it rouses him from a very groggy sleep before anyone else. No one else even twitches at the sound or the blue light, and there's nobody in the halls the moment Shu steps outside, so might as well head to the location that pops up - right?
It indicates where Shu needs to go to meet Adrastea. The walk there is eerie, and lit only by the emergency lights of the ship - a sickly, golden orange in a strip that barely brightens the dark corners. The senior officer can be found easily there, spinning something almost absently around one finger, the other hand cupping their elbow. Once Shu is close enough, they stop spinning the item in their possession and instead toss it at him for him to catch.
It's a flashlight, one with a strap on the end. Huh. Pretty useful, considering the darkness that surrounds them.
Adrastea taps a flashlight of their own against their shoulder, something serious but enigmatic in their filtered voice as their helmet remains blank, only a faint, cool blue glow just barely visible from within. "Let's go."

RULES
As the role responsible for security patrols, along with the information that is acquired on patrol, Shu is expected to follow a few rules:
1. For now, keep your new designation a secret. Should this designation be shared with anyone without prior authorization, consequences and termination of position are possible. This can be revisited at a later date.
↳ As of w2, you can share your role with ONE non-role person.
2. You may use your knowledge during trial to guide, suggest, or prioritize investigations. If you otherwise distribute any information acquired, it must be done anonymously or without referencing the true source. This can be revisited at a later date.
3. Each week, Security Patrol can do the following:
📹 A. one location can be chosen on Tuesday; this location is where the role can place a video camera, completely separate from the Eudora's system, which is tamperproof and will remain hidden until retrieved.
↳ As of w3, you can place TWO cameras in separate locations.
🔎 B. a second location can be chosen Friday, with two chances to pick again if your choice doesn't get a hit; this is the location which can be investigated before the curfew lockdown is lifted and crime scenes are marked restricted areas prior to being locked down.
Currently, junior crew capsules require a valid explanation as to why you want to check or monitor them, and senior crew capsules are off limits. Anywhere else that has been unlocked on the Eudora is fair game.
4. While patrolling on Friday before lockdown lifts, 1 piece of evidence can be retrieved from the location that you visit. Choose wisely.
↳ As of w3, there is a chance to increase this to TWO pieces of evidence depending on the investigation.
☠️ If Security Patrol finds a dead body, this does not count towards the pieces of evidence that can be retrieved, regardless of whether it's physically located or found in their video log. Adrastea will ensure that the body is brought to trial first thing to give the crew a head start.
5. Once you have completed your patrol, you can choose whether to share the recording (if there is one) anonymously on the public network. If you share it privately, the source of it cannot be revealed at this time.

the coat is also covering the rust stains appearing on his stomach, where he just straight up had a hole last week. ]
Having fun there?
[ watching her twist and spin. whee. ]

You know when an old wound aches in the cold or rain? I'm having that, but it's my - [ she gestures at the entire range of her eyes. ] Better this than whatever other post-warp effects we could be saddled with, I suppose, but it's rather annoying.
no subject
Just a whole face ache, then. Pleasant.
[ sounds miserable, actually. ]
Especially if it's still ongoing.
no subject
It's tolerable, just annoying. [ high pain index. ] I imagine it'll wear off by Wednesday, since they don't tend to stick around this long, but here we are.
Sort of renders having the water park unpleasant, though.
no subject
Yeah, the timing really worked out well for that. We're spitting rust everywhere just as the pool opens up.
[ tch. ]
... I had a question for you, actually.
no subject
[ our pool party is saved...
but she tilts her head, propping her cheek on a fist. ]
Ask away, you know I'll answer what I can.

[ murder weekends are a thing. ]
You mentioned your predecessor a little, but-- was it someone called Althalos Truegust?
no subject
[ but she slow blinks at him like a cat with the question, fortunately not having a headache response. because - ]
Yes. He was a coward and a cheat, and I learned a lot about my job just to spite him, I found him so unlikeable. He... killed someone, and was put in the brig. After that, things get hazy, for my recollection as it is right now. Originally, when we were deep in the delusion of enjoying our jobs, I thought he'd transferred to the main hub to work security.
I imagine he's dead, in reality.
no subject
Yeah, you didn't give me the impression he was decent person. [ ... ] He killed someone?
[ and then things got hazy. hmm. he's not sure he likes that. ]
...
If things ran back then like they do now, then-- yeah. Probably.
no subject
I think... ours was a slow escalation, rather than being something that started right away. But it exploded once it did escalate.
no subject
So, less weekly events and more a free for all of killing? Something like that? [ they hit the ground running, but ultimately things have kept to a weirdly polite schedule, considering people are being murdered. ]
no subject
Maybe. Testing things out, in a way. Testing us. Ah. [ she stops scrolling, pulling up a photo copy of the handwritten list left out for updating. ] Dimia Montagu, chief military officer. Looks like someone's filled that out already. You all can add that Truegust killed her.
no subject
Sounds like a kind of move you would've expected from him, given how you talk about him. [ ... ] What did he look like? Seeing as we're noting that down too.
no subject
[ this isn't actually that much of a pause i just had to go look at our filled out roster ]
Sandy hair, shorter than me. Sort of Temenos' build. [ twink. but she taps her lower lip after taking her cigarette in hand again. ] He had lip piercings. I remember they always clacked against his coffee mugs.
no subject
[ he'll take a few notes on this to fill out in the roster later. ]
... When did you realise he hadn't gone to security?
no subject
... I think it really set in week before last, but it really hit this last week.
no subject
[ ... ]
I'm going to take it as a good thing. Whatever had a grip on you guys is wearing off. [ because he doesn't want to think about alternatives and how bad that could be, honestly. ]
