ROLE — SECURITY PATROL 🔦
SECURITY PATROL
welcome, crewmate shu.
Early in the day on TUESDAY, Shu will hear the familiar ping of the I.R.I.S. at his wrist; the moment that he lifts up his hand to check what the noise is for, a window immediately pops up. The projection fills in a spread of blue, and a message sent only to his designation loads in the window.
I have something of a job for you. Pick a location to set up an off-network camera, to catch anything in the area; if the system is going to pull a stunt on us again, we can certainly work smarter, not harder.
If it does, meet me in the morning after the lockdown ends. I've updated some of your credentials so you should be able to get up before anyone else. We can go get the camera, maybe squeeze in a second location before we have to lock down everything and everyone's awake.

ADRASTEA
Come FRIDAY, early in the morning, a message notification sounds again. It's loud enough that it rouses him from a very groggy sleep before anyone else. No one else even twitches at the sound or the blue light, and there's nobody in the halls the moment Shu steps outside, so might as well head to the location that pops up - right?
It indicates where Shu needs to go to meet Adrastea. The walk there is eerie, and lit only by the emergency lights of the ship - a sickly, golden orange in a strip that barely brightens the dark corners. The senior officer can be found easily there, spinning something almost absently around one finger, the other hand cupping their elbow. Once Shu is close enough, they stop spinning the item in their possession and instead toss it at him for him to catch.
It's a flashlight, one with a strap on the end. Huh. Pretty useful, considering the darkness that surrounds them.
Adrastea taps a flashlight of their own against their shoulder, something serious but enigmatic in their filtered voice as their helmet remains blank, only a faint, cool blue glow just barely visible from within. "Let's go."

RULES
As the role responsible for security patrols, along with the information that is acquired on patrol, Shu is expected to follow a few rules:
1. For now, keep your new designation a secret. Should this designation be shared with anyone without prior authorization, consequences and termination of position are possible. This can be revisited at a later date.
↳ As of w2, you can share your role with ONE non-role person.
2. You may use your knowledge during trial to guide, suggest, or prioritize investigations. If you otherwise distribute any information acquired, it must be done anonymously or without referencing the true source. This can be revisited at a later date.
3. Each week, Security Patrol can do the following:
📹 A. one location can be chosen on Tuesday; this location is where the role can place a video camera, completely separate from the Eudora's system, which is tamperproof and will remain hidden until retrieved.
↳ As of w3, you can place TWO cameras in separate locations.
🔎 B. a second location can be chosen Friday, with two chances to pick again if your choice doesn't get a hit; this is the location which can be investigated before the curfew lockdown is lifted and crime scenes are marked restricted areas prior to being locked down.
Currently, junior crew capsules require a valid explanation as to why you want to check or monitor them, and senior crew capsules are off limits. Anywhere else that has been unlocked on the Eudora is fair game.
4. While patrolling on Friday before lockdown lifts, 1 piece of evidence can be retrieved from the location that you visit. Choose wisely.
↳ As of w3, there is a chance to increase this to TWO pieces of evidence depending on the investigation.
☠️ If Security Patrol finds a dead body, this does not count towards the pieces of evidence that can be retrieved, regardless of whether it's physically located or found in their video log. Adrastea will ensure that the body is brought to trial first thing to give the crew a head start.
5. Once you have completed your patrol, you can choose whether to share the recording (if there is one) anonymously on the public network. If you share it privately, the source of it cannot be revealed at this time.

MEGA PARK (EAST)
as they enter into the eastern area: ] Watch out for the birds, if something happened here they might be riled up.
[ there's some light, morning chirping from the trees. a few mourning dove croons. it seems fairly peaceful, at first, if you ignore the trampled grass and flora everywhere at first glance. ]
no subject
After people getting flung around the ship, I'm pretty sure they'd be mad anyway. People definitely ended up here last night. [ camera or not, it's the park. he just Knows. ]
... [ right. so. does the trampled flora and grass seem to be trampled in any specific way? does it just look like people ran through it while scuffling?
also caaaan he see a body at all because gazes into the distance. ]
no subject
The dogs were fine when we all landed. Seemed more excited about having company than worried about the happenings of the ship, but that's dogs for you.
[ it does look like it was trampled by being run through, as well as having had a scuffle tear through the area, yes. there are some vague footprints in the mess of it all, partials that make it hard to tell an exact size - just that one set belonged to someone smaller, and another set to someone taller.
there's also some blood dotted in amongst the greenery! it's a light trail, but if he follows that and the trampled down grass and plants, he will find more blood and...
diluc ragnvindr is dead. ]
- gods.

[ these dogs are just conditioned to accept The Horrors i guess. shu is looking around for anything else that might stand out -- any signs of what happened here, any dropped weapons or items that might help them reach some conclusions in the trial tomorrow.
and then of course, they come across a corpse. OMO i'm going to fight you. ]
...
[ ah.
he crouches down nearby to get a closer look. is there anything he's allowed to note, or is this invisible to his eyes because it is not saturday? ]
... Diluc was a good fighter, wasn't he? Either someone bested him, or had something that could best him on them. [ he just sounds tired. like something he figured could happen finally did and he isn't sure how he feels about it.
is there anything around diluc's body? other than blood. ]
no subject
[ unlike the server robots, they are definitely conditioned to The Horrors. there's a lot of activity on the ground level, here, with a few bushes disturbed and blood here and there. no visible weapons, though - save for diluc's claymore on the ground next to him.
speaking of diluc, there's a very large pool of blood nearby, but not under, him. you also get to know that his throat was slit. ]
Claymore users tend to be harder to get close to without taking damage. They're slower, typically, but they're hard hitters and have a very wide reach. Whoever did this will show signs of having fought him, if they got into his range.
no subject
Mm. If you fight up close and personal you're more likely to get injuries. You said last week if someone used the Medbay -- [ which, wow, if they did that's two weeks he's just been vibing in a location with a member of senior crew while shit happened around him. ] -- it'd be noted, like how the Armory was noted as being visited.
[ so. they'll know. ]
Especially against someone who really knows what he's doing.
[ he's not going to focus on diluc too much -- someone will tomorrow when they check his body. he'll give him one last glance before getting up to do a loop of the area. anything in the water near the waterfall? do the birds have any sign of carrying anything in their beaks? ]
no subject
adrastea considers this, displeased. the officers all checked in with each other so she knows that amalthea was there, which makes her even more unhappy in the long run. shu was hurt and thea is baby... ] It should, yes. You do also have to take the heal guns into consideration, unfortunately, but at least those are easy enough to account for. If you used them, the charge indicator will be blank. You just have to confirm what healing was done.
[ she looks down at diluc. poor idiot.
nothing appears to be in the water near the waterfall! there are some birds chirping and bopping around above them, living their best lives, though nothing is in any of their beaks. one of them tries to land on a branch, but seems to decide better against it when it dips down more than it anticipates. nearby, another bird is fussing with its nest, trying to fit something considerably long in with its babies. ]
no subject
is this sunblock round 2.... ]
Did everyone get those? I know I had one at the start of the week, but apparently I got shot with a couple of them yesterday. Charles and Yuri, specifically.
[ sweet diwuc. goodnight, sweet dawn winery prince.
hm. well. can he get up the tree to see what made the branch dip more than expected? and-- what that bird is trying to put inside its nest? ]
no subject
I believe so. Io, Ganymede, Thebe, and Amalthea were responsible for putting them in your lockers, if I remember correctly. But they have one charge and then the recharge time can take a bit, so they won't have another shot tomorrow if they were used yesterday.
[ if he'd like to climb the tree he may. the branch looks like it's been bent unnaturally, and from up here he'll be able to tell this is directly above the large blood pool that diluc is not in, but is laying in the grass near. so that's fun.
the bird has what appears to be a very long stick, although it's in another tree so he will either have to go climb to that one and brave the bird's wrath or make note of it. up to you! ]
no subject
So, if someone can't explain away a missing charge, then that's grounds for suspicion. Still, it took two blasts and three hours in a pod to get me to this point, so I can't imagine they're some magical cure all for all suspicious wounds.
[ ...
he'll take a photo of the bird with the long stick as clearly visible as he can. ]
We can bring the claymore back, and then if we can put this photo out it'll give the people who go there an idea of what to look for. This bird might've got the stick in or on the nest by then, so they can just grab it and run.
[ the balance... let them explore. ]
no subject
No, I think they're along the lines of an hour or two in the recovery pods. Enough that you won't bleed out from a severe injury, but you'll easily reopen something or it will look particularly fresh.
[ she's watching him closely as he does his tree shenanigans. at least from up there, the picture will be fairly clear! it is a long, straight stick. the bird stares him down like it's considering swooping. ]
It'll give them a few things to talk about in the start of trial, at least. [ she looks down at the big ol sword and diluc both. ] ... I'll get some of the boys to get Ragnvindr and his claymore. You're injured, and I already know that I won't be able to lug that thing back.
