ROLE — SURGEON 💉
SURGEON
welcome, crewmate ARTHUR STARLING.
On MONDAY afternoon, after the Eudora has arrived at its new destination, Arthur will hear the familiar ping of his I.R.I.S. Without even having to lift his hand to respond to it, a window immediately materializes from particles in a spread of dark gold, and a message sent only to his employee ID loads in the window.
There is no compulsion to obey the request, but the offer extended to you has a distinct tinge of stubborn hope... and it does sound interesting.

Arthur Starling,
Desperate times call for desperate measures. There's something that I need your help with, but I'll be honest, it's a ghost promotion without too many perks. That is, unless you consider the chance to perhaps change things for the better something of a perk.
Meet me in the medical bay as soon as you receive this message. We don't have time to waste. Clock's ticking.

IO
The medical bay is by no means difficult to find, however Arthur will see a sign that very politely says OUT TO LUNCH, BACK IN 1 HOUR. While the biometric lock on the door indicates that it is locked at first, upon Arthur nearing it, it will flash a soft green and allow him inside.
Io is there already, peering through a microscope and writing in a small, leather journal. They will lift their head towards Arthur, the display on their helmet blank. They gesture with a gloved hand towards a set of stools placed at their desk, where there are a pair of data tablets as well. At the center of the desk, there are some neatly made dumplings and a fresh pot of tea with a pair of mis-matched cups.
They smooth a palm over their long jacket and reach into their pocket to withdraw a leatherbound notebook. "Come, have a seat and I'll try and explain this as best I can."

RULES
As the crewmate responsible for the surgeon role, Arthur is expected to follow a few rules:
1. For now, keep your new designation a secret. This can be revisited at a later date. Should this designation be shared with anyone without prior authorization, consequences, and termination of the designation are possible.
2. If you distribute any information acquired, it must be done anonymously or without referencing the true source. This can be revisited at a later date.
3. Once a week, the Surgeon will be called upon to do the following:
🩺 Select one of your fellow junior crewmates' files. If the chosen crewmate is targeted for murder on Thursday evening, they may be protected from their demise.
🫀Select one of your fellow junior crewmates' files. If the chosen crewmate is voted for execution on Sunday afternoon, they may be saved from their demise.
4. Selection must be made during Arthur's meeting with Io when summoned (OOCly selections are due by TUESDAY 3 PM PST/6 PM EST). Once one or both parties leave the meeting, the job is considered over for the week and no selections or further work can be done. This does not mean that the role can't be discussed in audiences, however.

Regarding the madness going on...? No. I wish... It doesn't present at all in any scans as an anomaly, so it's flying under the radar, whatever it is. It's too little to say, I don't want more "samples" if we can help it.
I do have some better news. I believe it may be wise for you to have one confidant. Someone you trust implicitly... you may tell them of your assignment.

Does it have to be someone who I can be assured won't tell anyone else?
[this is how he chooses between temenos and charles]
And... May I ask what changed?

[ arthur picking between
love interestsno. io just tilts their head a long moment, evaluating. there's a brief draw to their brow as they close their eyes a moment. then: ]Because I don't think the times will get any kinder to us. [ you could use the support. ] Your choice each week must remain a secret, however.

...I see. But - I'm free to tell them the basic details?

spreading their hands a bit, some straw sticking out from their sleeves. ]
Yes. Though I think you understand the meaning of less is more well, even among comrades... just... be careful, yes?

[...]
Are you - quite alright?
no subject
Is anyone alright today? Could ask you the same...
[ genuine. ]
It's an unpleasant thing.

[untrue but ok]
no subject
Not so much. The effects of this week have proven to be... harmless physically at the very least.
Not my favorite. [ a gesture of the fingers up. your hands, bro. ] And you? How has it been?
no subject
[he's going with his favorite coping mechanism which is not thinking about it until it directly interferes with his day to day]
So. The same rules this week, beyond the ability to tell someone else?
no subject
Correct. If I could offer you more, then I would...
But any choice is right... so long as you give it the will to exist. One chance is better than none, you take fate into your hands.
[ and you roll the dice. ]

Your eyes will deliver unto you all the proof you need.

...If I were to prevent someone from being killed on a Thursday evening, am I correct in assuming that it would prevent the need for a trial, or would we still need to find the person who was - corrupted?
no subject
You'd be right in assuming the latter... as much of a gauntlet as it is.
[ folding arms. nine hours. ]
We would still have to find the... corrupted is perhaps a good word for it. To not do so would be dangerous, considering what we've seen the past couple of weeks.
[ the results could potentially be unpleasant. ]

I believe it's not unlike a ticking time bomb. One that's difficult to diffuse in the moment.

Majority vote sets them free, just like that...

It's a possibility.
That, or they might end up lashing out again... like Eunhyuk and Scien. At this point, we've been... luckily unlucky enough to find them...
