CAPTAIN'S LOG

welcome, crewmate isabel.

On WEDNESDAY, after returning to the ship from their planetside work, Lovelace will hear the familiar ping of the I.R.I.S. at her wrist; the moment that she lifts up her hand to check what the noise is for, a window immediately pops up. The projection fills in a spread of purple, and a message sent only to her designation loads in the window.

There is no compulsion to obey the request, but it is rather politely made - and could be interesting.

GOOD AFTERNOON, CPT. LOVELACE.

Hopefully I'm not interrupting anything? Sorry, if that's the case! I tried to time this for when you weren't busy with work planetside for the delivery, and wanted to give you the chance to explore if you wanted.

If you could please meet with me as soon as possible, I would appreciate it. There's some work that you might find interesting. I think if we did it together, we could really do a lot with it - and it might help us get some answers.

GANYMEDE

The observation deck is highlighted on the I.R.I.S. once the message is read, and will indicate where Lovelace needs to go to meet Ganymede. The CCO can be found easily there, waiting patiently, a data pad in their hands before turning to greet her companionably. They won't begin the discussion until they're sure that there's no one else around. While relaxed, it's hard to say what they're thinking, as there's currently no emoticons or symbols displaying on the visor of their helmet, but their filtered voice is still steady and calm.

"I'm sure you've got questions, and we've got a lot to go over. Let's get started."

RULES

As the role responsible for the captain's log, along with information that is acquired through it, Lovelace is expected to follow a few rules:

1. For now, keep your new designation a secret. Should this designation be shared with anyone without prior authorization, consequences and termination of position are possible. This can be revisited at a later date.
    ↳ As of w2, you can share your role with ONE non-role person.
2. If you distribute any information acquired, it must be done anonymously or without referencing the true source. This can be revisited at a later date.
3. Each week, only one person can be investigated. You can choose that one person, or you can select three from which a random individual will be pulled from through RNG. You cannot investigate yourself, senior crew, or previously decommissioned crew at this time.
    ↳ As of w5, a second person can be selected; these choices can come from both senior and junior crew, the previously decommissioned, and the old crew roster.
4. Selection must be made during Lovelace's meeting with Ganymede when summoned on Wednesday (ICly, OOCly the deadline is Friday). Once one or both parties leave the meeting, the meeting is concluded until reconvening for discussion of results on Sunday. This does not mean that the role can't be discussed in audiences, however!

[ ganymede is... a little skittish! what with it being memshare week and all, he's trying to give people a respectable amount of space so that they maybe don't get ensnared into voids together. but he's still in the observalounge. ] Hey, captain. Hope the delivery work didn't give you too much trouble... [ the past 7 days have been so eepy i'm coming back for you with answers on the sunday thread. ]

Secret's safe with me. [ laughing a little. ] I think a lot of us have been ditching our non-essential work. Take it easy today, then? [ avoid the voids? ]

I'm just trying to focus my energy on thinking about who to look into.

Just missing three, if all of us decided to go this route. What're you feeling..?

Honestly, at this point I'm basically guessing blind. Knowing who among us talk to the senior crew might help figure out who's worth checking based just on that, but because that's information I only get from checking, it's not actually something I know enough about.

All of us on the last field trip wound up having a special designation. So maybe someone from the next group. Might as well use it as a way to narrow down my random selection. [ SHRUGS ]

[ he reaches and rubs his fingertips against the acid burns of his cheekbone, absent, thinking... ] It might be worth a shot. The pieces all kind of fell in place like dominos, for everyone that you found after Shoma, so whatever your gut tells you from here on out will be good either way.

It was like doing the equation wrong and still getting the right answer.

But I'll take it.

Sometimes we just get lucky. Definitely won't look a gift horse in the mouth. The other three didn't let anything slip during out emergency meeting, but I'm not really surprised. Callisto's been closed off for a little while, now, and Adrastea is private. Though Amalthea might tell us if we ask nicely.

Wouldn't hurt to get whatever information you can, but with things how they are I can understand not speaking up.

Besides, I imagine it's not like you were honest about this, either.

Nope. [ he'll admit it. ] I wanted you to stay under the radar, in case none of them had "trainees," at least until I knew whether or not it'd be safe to say anything. I trust a lot of them - kind of hard not to when you live together for three months and you're kind of in an amnesia trauma cloud with one another - but with things being hinky, better safe than sorry.

[ as lovelace receives this result, she'll also feel a brief moment of disorientation; it feels like her thoughts are being super imposed by another set, another captain's, another crewmate's data besides the familiar face of gregor. something that she can't quite make out. after that, the drift effect is gone - it's just her, ganymede, and gregor's information. ]

[ urgh okay well she's reeling a bit from that overlay... ]

Captain..? [ reaching to carefully set his hand on her arm, to stabilize her. she felt sturdier. taller. strong, working hands that looked down at the datapad with familiarity. and - now it's her. just her, just the lovelace she's become. ] Hey, you alright?

[ she appreciates the gesture and takes a second to just. reacclimate. ]

... Yeah, I think. I was just - something felt strange.

[dropoffs]

[ he's worried, but doesn't fuss much more than the touch. ] Strange? Nothing's happened when you've gotten the results before, but these Sundays have gotten stranger and stranger...

[thematics]

... Have they?

I felt like I was... someone else. For a second. Looking at someone else. [ a feeling that she very specifically and with a whole lot of familiarity hates. ]

[dropoffs]

The... [ gestures with his other hand, for a moment, frowning. ] Everything, this Sunday and last. Simulations made real, the barriers, the strange fog... [ but he listens to that, and - also hates it. great. ] Did you catch anything?

Right. Never know what's supposed to be normal around here.

[ this is a joke. maybe. ]

... Not really. Felt like someone taller. More familiar with all this. With whoever they were looking at.

[dropoffs]

[ maybe. ] At this rate, and the fact we keep remembering things are weird? Kind of can't. [ but ganymede brings his hand away from her, going to rub at his chin as he thinks. ] ... a ghost reading, in a way?

I... guess.

After this week and all of the memory weirdness, I can't tell if that's just... me? Or his file? Or... something else?

[ ganymede holds out his hand for the datapad. ] Let's see? We can take a look at the file's data, at least. Work our way through process of elimination.
