welcome, crewmate isabel.

On WEDNESDAY, after returning to the ship from their planetside work, Lovelace will hear the familiar ping of the I.R.I.S. at her wrist; the moment that she lifts up her hand to check what the noise is for, a window immediately pops up. The projection fills in a spread of purple, and a message sent only to her designation loads in the window.

There is no compulsion to obey the request, but it is rather politely made - and could be interesting.

GOOD AFTERNOON, CPT. LOVELACE.

Hopefully I'm not interrupting anything? Sorry, if that's the case! I tried to time this for when you weren't busy with work planetside for the delivery, and wanted to give you the chance to explore if you wanted.

If you could please meet with me as soon as possible, I would appreciate it. There's some work that you might find interesting. I think if we did it together, we could really do a lot with it - and it might help us get some answers.

GANYMEDE

The observation deck is highlighted on the I.R.I.S. once the message is read, and will indicate where Lovelace needs to go to meet Ganymede. The CCO can be found easily there, waiting patiently, a data pad in their hands before turning to greet her companionably. They won't begin the discussion until they're sure that there's no one else around. While relaxed, it's hard to say what they're thinking, as there's currently no emoticons or symbols displaying on the visor of their helmet, but their filtered voice is still steady and calm.

"I'm sure you've got questions, and we've got a lot to go over. Let's get started."

RULES

As the role responsible for the captain's log, along with information that is acquired through it, Lovelace is expected to follow a few rules:

1. For now, keep your new designation a secret. Should this designation be shared with anyone without prior authorization, consequences and termination of position are possible. This can be revisited at a later date.
    ↳ As of w2, you can share your role with ONE non-role person.
2. If you distribute any information acquired, it must be done anonymously or without referencing the true source. This can be revisited at a later date.
3. Each week, only one person can be investigated. You can choose that one person, or you can select three from which a random individual will be pulled from through RNG. You cannot investigate yourself, senior crew, or previously decommissioned crew at this time.
    ↳ As of w5, a second person can be selected; these choices can come from both senior and junior crew, the previously decommissioned, and the old crew roster.
4. Selection must be made during Lovelace's meeting with Ganymede when summoned on Wednesday (ICly, OOCly the deadline is Friday). Once one or both parties leave the meeting, the meeting is concluded until reconvening for discussion of results on Sunday. This does not mean that the role can't be discussed in audiences, however!

We heard back from Nut & Bolt, although it was only a brief message due to interference. They said they'd send a more detailed report at the start of next week, though, so we'll hopefully be getting some good news.

In the meantime... I was wondering if you'd be willing to do a little "shadowing," so to speak. That's what it is on paper to prevent the higher ups from asking too many questions, so we're kind of bending the rules, but. [ they pull a datapad from one of their belt pouches, offering it to her. ] You were in charge of things, before. You headed your own investigations, right? When you needed to?

It'll be kind of slow going, since we can't go triggering anything in the system that could track it, but we can start looking through the passenger log to see if anything comes up. Like someone gaining access that they shouldn't have, or going somewhere where they should be or when they shouldn't be.

I'm hoping it will. I'll rope the other seven in after we see what we can find, how successful it is, but I've upgraded your credentials to branch under mine, so to speak. It shouldn't log as either of us in the system because of the overlap, but if someone does wind up detecting the instances...

It'll be under my name, not yours. Give you some coverage.

Up to you in the long run, and what it is you find, but we can find a way to distribute it without you having to worry about your name being attached.

But if it shows suspicious activity, we have grounds to detain the person in question to try and get more information from them directly.

I thought so, too. I think it'll do us a lot of good - even if it takes some time, it's better than just sitting around, right? And if we get the hang of it, maybe you'll be able to investigate more than one person at a time.

No, but it is good to know that it logs things like this from the week. [ a frown in their voice. ] Seeing extra designation makes me wonder if the other seven have decided to do something like this as well - I haven't told them, yet, just to give you some coverage.

But for now it's still good to know what people are up to.

I don't see anything wrong with that. You're the kind of person I don't need to say "be careful" to, also. [ maybe you SHOULD ganymede ] I'll see if we can't bump up what's logged, or get you access for more than one at the time... might be nice to have, especially with how things are going.

Careful only gets us so far. Something's in our heads and our resources are limited, even with these reports.

[ these are observations to her... not criticisms of the senior crew anymore. but they sound the same because she's mean. ]

... I was thinking of checking out the kid, next time. He had something pretty useful in trial. Hard to believe it was just left with him. [ not impossible, though. ]

Sometimes, risks have to be taken to be able to get answers. Especially with things the way the are.

[ if ganymede thinks that she's mean, they don't seem to react to it that way, at least. they're taking her in stride. ]

Shoma? [ hand at their helmet's chin ] Might be worth giving it a shot - I heard about that ball after trial was over, when we were debriefed by the other four about how things went. Worth seeing what he gets up to if nothing else.

Yeah. He acted like someone had just left it in his locker. Either that meant one of you guys, or—I don't know. If I checked someone, would it show if they'd been dropping things in other people's lockers?

... Or maybe they would just have some kind of designation to begin with.

It might be that they'd have a designation? I don't think any of us gave him anything... we only leave requisitions in your lockers, and that wouldn't be something we'd have requisitioned, I don't think.

[ thoughtful... ]

Could see if he goes to the stasis bay lockers? That would show on there. Or wherever he might wind up getting it.

You don't think any of you gave him anything, but you also didn't know the others had picked anyone to help out like this. And you don't know who. So... would you know?

[ it's fine if not, she just gets the impression they maybe aren't that up to date with each other about these things. ]

The goal is to find who put it in the locker, if that's where he got it. But the log of him taking it out would help clarify. Either way, it's somewhere to start.

I don't think we would give it to him just out of the blue, is more what it is. We can't get you guys anything via requisition that would have an "ability" or effect. If he got it from having an extra designation, or someone with an extra designation chose to give it to him, then that's what makes more sense to me.

I won't directly ask the others, because they might be trying to work under the radar, too. But I'll see if I can't get a gauge on them during our next debrief.
