egodist: (✧ and you want them back)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-04 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[sweet vash!!]

Not lost to the void today? [just say hello?] Do you consent to joining us for an experiment?

[ok

that was. kind of a greeting]
artificialsweetener: (in your head in your mouth)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-04 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[SWEET VASH. He just gives Scien a look, thinking about how he will be the one to die if word ever gets back to Knives he hates it here so damn bad.

But then he just looks back toward Vash and raises a hand in cheery greeting.]

Hello, hello! It isn't going to be a harmful one!
egodist: (✧ i made a deal with the demons)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-04 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
It shouldn't require that, nor should it require you to be unconscious for long durations. You can revoke your willingness to comply at any time.

[scien is curious about this test but not so much that he'll override vash's will for it]

I'd like to see what we can find in your memories, and verify if you're made of memories as we are.
artificialsweetener: (the greatest thing)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-04 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[NOT THE RUST. EVERYONE HERE IS SO DAMN RUSTY. Dahut's not rusting for now, at least. He smiles at the mention of getting cut up, though it's a little wry.]

We've already run this on Monsieur Scien and his head is still on his shoulders, so you most likely won't have anything to worry about. And we won't go poking around for things unrelated to our stay here, of course!

[Even if he is perhaps curious...]
egodist: (✧ i'll even indulge in your selfishness)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-04 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
[scien nods and just

starts walking toward the operating theater then]

Let's go.

[that's all the agreement he needed]
artificialsweetener: (paperback dreams)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-04 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yay!

[DON'T JUST YAY. He'll reach out for Vash's hand if it's not rusty so they can walk to the fucking operating theater together. This operating theater where people (Scien) have died.]
egodist: (✧ i made a deal with the demons)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-04 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
[scien does not yay. he knows so little joy in life. this is not one of them.

but they make it back to the operating theater and goes to open their stupid little biometric access closet. he wheels out their memory machine, setting it up and gesturing for vash to take a seat on the operating table.]

Dahut, begin the preparation for memory viewing.

[task for the assistant!]

First Callisto, you will be given a headset. Following that, all three of us will be able to view your memories on the screen. We'll rewind as far back as we can get, starting with seeing if we can find how you died. After that, we'll rewind further to determine what can be seen from the previous tour.

Acceptable?
artificialsweetener: (with brooding black circles)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-04 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Don't forget that you can tell us to stop at any time!

[Letting sweet Vash's prosthetic paw go so he can make a big X with his arms when he says "stop", before he scurries off to start preparing things. i hate fake science bullshit so much]
egodist: (✧ take my hand)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-04 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
It should be... and afterward we will also perform a test to see if you are made of memory as we are.

[that's afterward though. one thing at a time. scien will just turn the machine so they can easily see the screen that'll show vash's memories.

scien will wait until he's all hooked up and ready.]

We will begin at your count. Count down from three when you're comfortable to begin.

[this is... consideration?]
artificialsweetener: (you'll ever learn)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-04 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
[He's just waiting for Vash's signal! THE BEST PATIENT... JUST A SWEET LIL PACIFIST. Whenever he's comfortable and starts the countdown, he'll wait until zero before launching operations from his end.]
egodist: (✧ i'll even indulge in your selfishness)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-04 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
[are those results all in chronological order, hei

but hmmmm. scien will be trying to focus on that blank spot between prepping for new crew and then showing up in helly belly. he rewinds and replays a few time, watching the memory skip.]

... well, I suppose it couldn't be that easy.

But this confirms that your memory seems to be reliant on information that we collect.
artificialsweetener: (for very long)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-04 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Also watching this happen with a little hum and then a soft sigh. NOT THE VOID...]

I'm curious about the spaces just before they started prepping for our arrival, too... Seems to be a likely point where the memories of your arrival and tour may have been lost.
egodist: (✧ there's nothing real)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-05 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Especially after you've seen so many people die over the course of that last tour.

I suppose that you'll find out what goes there around the same time that we do.
artificialsweetener: (in their deep doze)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-05 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Reaching out to gently patpat Vash's arm.]

We'll find your body yet! If you have one to find, anyway, which... presumably you do? Maybe.

[Unless Vash isn't made of memory or his corpse has already been vored by a flesh wall somewhere, in which case, rest in pieces.]
egodist: (✧ i made a deal with the demons)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-05 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, though it should be brief.

[scien turns to dahut] Prepare the program for a memory backup.

[he turns back to vash] In a typical procedure, this would simply create a copy of memory data to be uploaded into the next Reliver body. However, since we are made of memory, you might disappear entirely. If you do, we'll eject you from the machine shortly after.

If you don't, that means you're not made of memory.
artificialsweetener: (and called it acquired)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-05 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Mm, please do!

[He hopes that's going well too but he's also like Lucien's just out here doing whatever the fuck, so who knows how the body hunt is going, honestly. GOD.

He'll give Vash's hand one last pat before he moves to start preparations for Part Two. YAY...]
egodist: (✧ i made a deal with the demons)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-05 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
[scien nods. he was wondering if this would be the case.]

This is most likely your body, then.
artificialsweetener: (asleep in their quarters)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-05 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh! Congratulations! We don't need to go on a corpse hunt after all, probably!

[PROBABLY. He pats Vash's hand again.]

But I wonder how in the world it's possible for you to interact with the rest of us, in that case...? If we're memory data presumably stored somewhere, then why are you just here. [HELP. He asks this but it's clear he's not expecting an answer so much as pondering aloud.] Like the flesh wall or the Grinder, maybe?
egodist: (✧ there's nothing real)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-05 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
You said that you were examining the trash chute before you fell down here... right?

[did i make this up? well,]

If Beans was able to send us items through that, then it can stand to reason that we are essentially in the trash. That would also reflect why it was such a mess when we all first arrived.

Though it is odd that trash is where the heart and memories are also stored.
artificialsweetener: (i've got only my bones)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-05 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
[All dead souls go to the heart which is in the trash... It's a metaphor.]

Hm. It's pretty impressive you survived the fall, if that's the case! But I guess it would make the most sense from the information we currently have.
egodist: (✧ i'll even indulge in your selfishness)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-05 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
It's possible that there is a connection... though it's only a theory. Do you know what the structure of the ship is like? The distance from that waste disposal point to this endpoint?

[he tilts his head]

Have you been injured here? Do you know if you are affected by the same healing that we are?
artificialsweetener: (wont you carry it in)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-05 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
We can do a quick test if you don't know or can't remember! Just a veeery small one.

[They are in the operating theater, after all.]
egodist: (✧ i made a deal with the demons)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-05 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
[hmmm. scien nods at that, accepting.]

But there must be another way for you to be here and not dead or made of memory.

[scien will look around for a scalpel.]

We can give you a small papercut in a non-intrusive area to test if you're affected by the healing effect.
artificialsweetener: (wont you carry it in)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-05 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Handing him a scalpel! Why does he have one at the ready.]

Is that alright, Monsieur Vash?
egodist: (✧ i'll even indulge in your selfishness)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-05 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
If that is a way for you to get here, then it is a possible way out. Though if your composition is different from ours, that also makes me wonder how we're meant to retrieve you.

[but scien will hold his hand out for vash's non-prosthetic arm. cut time. paw please]
artificialsweetener: (i'll miss keeping you)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-05 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe we can just push him through a rift and he'll pop out on the other side!

[He is (mostly) joking.]
egodist: (✧ i made a deal with the demons)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-05 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Is the Nonagon able to contact you directly as well? Do you get summoned?

[but scien will just make a light incision at the back of vash's hand. it's really no deeper than a papercut.]

Dahut, you said it takes five minutes for small injuries to heal? Prepare an antiseptic and bandage just in case.
artificialsweetener: (and called it acquired)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-05 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Nodding at what Vash says, and then, to Scien:]

Five to ten, yep! Not long at all!

[Unless sweet Vash is just a normal lifey in this den of hell, in which case he'll just be stuck with regular slow healing. Shufflin off to go get some antiseptic and cotton wipes and a lil bandage with kitties on it.]
egodist: (✧ the shadows they whisper)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-05 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
If you have your letters to spare, use one for this. Don't risk HER-MES.

[but also he watches vash heal more quickly and just

starts laughing what the hell is happening]

Oh? Interesting. So the healing might only partially have to do with memory. It could be that anything here might regenerate.

Should we try to cut a rat?
artificialsweetener: (あれ)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-05 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Reaching out to touch the healed area where the injury used to be with some curiosity.]

You can borrow one of mine if you need to, too!

[All he had to do this week was let Gregor know a rat sent him a love letter probably... GOOD QUESTION, THOUGH!! FASCINATING.]

Oh, it's a bit like the flesh from the walls and other rooms too, then... Regenerative biomatter! Surely there's at least one of the mean, bite-y rats left from one of those tears in space.
egodist: (✧ i made a deal with the demons)

[personal profile] egodist 2024-04-05 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
[vash is truly so good. scien will just think about their next rat experiment before he turns to vash]

We'll share our findings with you when we have them, First Callisto.

Congratulations on being corporeal.
artificialsweetener: (there was a girl)

[personal profile] artificialsweetener 2024-04-05 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Reaching up to pat Vash's lil noggin since he likes petting Vash like a golden retriever so much anyway.]

Thank you very much for your cooperation, we appreciate it!
