[ Hello buddies! This is a short ship exploration event that we have prepared for you, as both of you have submitted into our ship exploration mechanic. What this means is that you have both been RNG'd together to experience this particular part of the ship.
Instead of a thread, we will instead be writing up a straight encounter that requires no replies on your part, though you may RP out the scenario in a PC if you so desire. If you have any questions about this particular "encounter" please feel free to talk to us in your mod DMs! That being said, let's roll. ]
Well, it sure is a Tuesday aboard the Eudora. As Owner and Lucien happen to be meandering in a similar direction, they will find that their feet just happen to take them quite feetily towards.. a strange, locked room, one that has been locked since the start of the week. This lonely hall of the Eudora happens to share the same gate as the church, so this place... surely must be holy as well.
Seems like they don't have to wonder for long, however, as the doorway suddenly shudders with a gong!!!! sound, and the door shudders and opens itself slowly. It ratchets a moment, as though rusty, until its maw opens wide, revealing a cobalt blue glow from within. Upon entering, there is a low droning noise that fills the room, and any attempts to about face the fuck out of here are suddenly made impossible as the door seems to disappear leaving you inside of this room.
The blue pillar-like devices that span from floor to ceiling in this room pulse slowly, and it only takes a few seconds to recognize it as a slow beat of a heart. Thu-thud. Thu-thud. Thu-thud. And then, the glowing begins to correspond with the sound of a voice coming through, as though over a radio or a loudspeaker:
"Hello, baby girl! How are you? Just another sunny day back on Earth! Well, you should know that we're thinking of you. We sure missed you having you at Christmas dinner. The factory finally reopened, so we were actually able to get a turkey this year. We spent all day cooking it. The smell filled up the whole house. You'd have loved it. Hope Christmas dinner in space isn't too lonely."
The sound of radio static.
"Darling, sweetheart, baby, my A-cakes. I miss you with my whole heart. I know these messages take forever to reach anyone in the great, big, black void of space, but just knowing that these words will someday make it into your ears fills me with the hope I need to keep going. You're stubborn as a roach, but you're the most beautiful of 'em. Roaches, I mean. Cady is doin' great, she just took her first steps! Her eyes... they're just like yours. I think she's meant for the stars, too."
More radio static. The voice slowly begin to warp.
"House foreclosed today. I'm moving back in with my parents. I remember we dreamed ages go, that after we married we'd get a house - yellow with a thatched roof, baby blue shingles, brown door, golden fixtures. They told me that after day 13,420 of not hearing from you, I should give it up. That there is no more dream anymore. That it's over."
The voice deepens, it warps further, becomes more monstrous in tone. Something warm and wet creeps slowly towards the nape of your necks.
"I miss you. I miss you I miss you I miss you I miss you" Wheezing, hitching, staticky breath. I MISS YOU SO MUCH, IT HURTS. IT'S LIKE BEING GUTTED ALIVE. IT'S LIKE SOMEONE'S TAKEN A KNIFE TO ME. IT'S LIKE I'M HOLLOWED OUT, BUTCHERED, YOU'RE GONE, YOU'RE GONE AND YOU'LL NEVER HEAR THIS. WHO WILL HERE THIS? WHO WILL HEAR THIS!?"
It licks one long, wet stripe...
And then—
"Hi, mom...
It's Cady... well. It's Admiral Cady of the deep space cruiser, the Barquette. An admiral. Can you believe it?
I went to dad's funeral today. Put the last photo you two ever took together before going up into space to rendezvous with my ship.
I learned that all of dad's transmissions had the wrong intergalactic code on them. It was 99░̛͘͝░̶͠░̵̡͜͜░̸̷̨͟712000, not 999░̛͘͝░̶͠░̵̡͜͜░̸̷̨͟712000. He was missing a digit. Always missing a digit. Well. Whoever gets this... I love you too. Wherever you out there, in that cold, black expanse of the universe?
I love you too."
The lights in the room turn on suddenly, sharply, almost too light the halogen bright whiteness, turning the brilliant cobalt blue almost tame again, as the room becomes so deafeningly silent that leaving? Leaving sounds good. But before you go, something drops down between the both of you: a beaten up tablet.
Description of the location: Engineering is a thrumming beast of a room full of everything that makes the ship run. The equipment in here is pretty complex and definitely way over your head—in fact, you might say it's straight up out of this world. The jump drive is here for intergalactic travel, along with the planetary surveying sensors, inertial dampening equipment, defensive shield generator, and fuel processor. There are also emergency hull patch kits in here as well. The majority of these complicated machines are tamper-proof, with security glass that is shatterproof and unremovable over sensitive buttons and levers. Looks like you don't have clearance for much else but to :person_standing: in here.
While there is quite a bit to explore in this room, you'll find that within five minutes of lingering, you'll start to become extremely nauseous and light-headed, to the point where it is impossible to remain here any longer. If you try and muscle through it, you will find that the moment it becomes almost too much to bear, you are standing outside of it again, as though taken there by your own feet.
[ and that is the end of the encounter! you may play this out however you like in a PC, but if you do intend to do damage to the area/break anything, just place it in location changes and ping your mods with a link to your reply so that we can record it in a timely fashion. they will find that after the now-unlocked engineering room has calmed down, a beat up data pad is theirs for the taking. you may take this tablet and share the information on it with other members of the crew at their discretion, though we would like to see this information make the rounds at least a few times! ]
THE ENCOUNTER.
