[ Because there's going to be an event tomorrow that will probably take you guys out, we are going to do a writeup for this exploration. Kazuki and Todomatsu happen to walk into Hydroponics & Life Support out of curiosity because it is open. Here's a recap of what it's like from the location page:
Need to get a little more green in your life? Look no further and step into hydroponics for a breather. Surround yourself with fascinating flora of all kinds growing here in the most oxygen-rich location on the entire ship. Take a walk through the park-like structures, with a small bridge over a pool where large, wriggling eels twist peacefully beneath the glassy surface of the water.
Life Support is tied to hydroponics and is a peaceful-looking place. Several, suspended white, egg-shaped pods here are decorated inside with colorful bolts of fabric and pillows in all kinds of sizes and textures. This is the perfect place for a nap, and when one wakes up from a rest in these hanging pods, they'll feel quite refreshed. So if you're stressed, grab a blanket from the pile and have a quick nap. Just try not to disrupt the tranquility too much.
As the two of them enter the location, they're met with rows of shelves that house plants of different kinds for different uses. Many of them are meant to propagate and supply the Eudora sustenance. Regardless of blandness, bitterness, or whatever flavor you would describe greens, crew members need to survive for emergency space travel if there are no nearby planets to dock.
They'll recognize herbs from their home, but then there are some strange ones that look like crossbreeds. They're meant to... Emulate other flavors. There is one that is meant to replicate "umami" without the need to grow seaweed and create MSG. Have you ever considered what an herb that adds a bread flavor to your food is supposed to taste like? There are plenty of different combinations alongside the staples, which also consists of plant-based meat.
As you cross over the bridge, you see the large eels that slither under. There are a lot of them down there, then on the side there's a closet labeled "Screaming Closet." There's a light scent of blood and upon inspection, they find that it's a room to bleed the eels, clean out their intestines—the whole process to make their bland food. That's one secret revealed? They'll find an article somewhere that talks about eels' resourcefulness due how quickly they proliferate.
... All seems fine, doesn't it? They can go into life support itself that is for some reason attached. It's comfortable and coaxes them to sleep. It only takes sitting down anywhere for them to find the sandman visiting them. A blink becomes slower and slower before they drift away into the land of dreams.
They wake up. They're at the entrance of hydroponics again, go through their search again, see the same things again, but they see a shadow behind them through reflexive surfaces. It's difficult to tell what it looks like, but with every movement they make, it follows them with the shuffle of creaking wood. For some reason, they can't change their actions... They're stuck making the same choices, going the same path, and entering the comfortable life support room to drift away for a restful sleep.
They wake up. They're at the entrance of hydroponics again, go through their search again, see the same things again, but the shadow is more apparent. It looms closer behind them, like it's getting comfortable, and they can only see it indirectly through reflexive surfaces. No matter how hard they try to take control, they continue on as they did before.
And the shadow is closer when they're falling asleep, clearly in view as the lights start flickering. It looks like a scarecrow of a girl, wrapped in barbed wire... It holds the monster tight, even mimicking the resemblance of ballerina shoes wrapping around its calves. Wooden branches out of what would be her limbs, making silts of her legs. Covered in pink cherry blossoms, the petals flitter and flutter like they themselves breathe. It is the last thing they see.
They wake up... They're at the entrance of hydroponics again. Their cycle repeats and the monster is even closer. It stands right behind them and they can take in its floral scent. Their journey ends again at life support, they prepare to sleep the same way they did early, but before they're taken by the Morpheus, the monster raises its sharp wooden hands to impale them—
They wake up, in front of hydroponics... They do not go in. It's over, but there's a data log at their feet. ]
