[ Hello buddies! This is a short ship exploration event that we have prepared for you, as both of you have submitted into our ship exploration mechanic. What this means is that you have both been RNG'd together to experience this particular part of the ship.
Instead of a thread, we will instead be writing up a straight encounter that requires no replies on your part, though you may RP out the scenario in a PC if you so desire. If you have any questions about this particular "encounter" please feel free to talk to us in your mod DMs! That being said, let's roll. ]
Gregor and Shu, your feet take you on this fine day towards a mysteriously locked room in Gate Four that has remained locked for the past day and a half or so (this will take place on Tuesday, likely in the evening). Gentle thudding sounds are coming from this room, just a ga-thnk ga-thnk ga-thunk that causes the bottom of the otherwise pneumatically shut door rattles a bit. With each ga-thnk, the bolts on the sides rattle more and moreโ
Ga-thnk ga-thnk ga-thnkgathnkgathnkgathnkBOOM!
At the sound of that boom, there is... what looks to be a corner of the doorway pressed open, as though by immense force, and from it, a singular eye gazes out, enormous and twitching, shivering, locking on the both of you. You could run, maybe normally, but where exactly is there to run to now? For some reason the hallway behind you has disappeared. Life Support and Hydroponics are nowhere to be seen and all you can detect is an expanse of bleak, black, narrow hallway, just enough for the two of you to stand barely side by side. Was the ceiling always this low here? Did you always have to start standing so closely together?
No.
That gaze keeps you locked in place, like a paralytic or like a hypnotist's watch, telling you to remain, to stay. Let it have a look at you. And then, whatever is behind the door inhales... deeply. Again. Again. It can smell you.
Something fleshy begins to press out through the narrow opening, the size of maybe one of your fists. That flesh then begins to expand, to fill the opening, to reach.
This thing's bones are made of springy cartilage, like a sharkโs, causing its body to form properly as it escapes the tight gap. It could never walk by the looks of it. Instead, it crawls on deeply calloused forearms and knees, pausing to listen and sniff the air right where you both stand, pinned in place. As it crawls fully out, revealing itself to you, its eyes will level with yours as you finally feel your feet unstick. The wet, thick voice whispers: "At last..."
And just like that, Shu and Gregor will feel that their feet are finally free, but even as they try to perhaps run (or fight like fools, I don't know your life), a pale gigantic hand reaches towards them, clutching to grasp them. A gawping face fills the width of the passageway suddenly in a rolling wave of flesh, sliding opalescent eyes under half-closed lids, a mouth like a void, the huge teeth in it grating as the jaw deforms. Its only option is to crush them against the wall with its outstretched hand with a sudden smash, or grab them and squeeze them to break their bones (take your pick) before it then slithers forward to scoop them up in its mouth.
The sad fact is this: this beast will eat you, whether you scramble and try to run or not. It will find you in this black, void-like stretch of hall, and it will catch you in the end, and it will shove you into its great jaws, chewing well, clothes and all, to get you out of the way. You will feel the pain acutely, of being chewed and torn for the longest five seconds of your life before suddenly you open your eyes and realize that you've been standing in front of a now-opened door through all of that, wavering on your feet, the echoes of your own bones crunching still rattling through you. You are whole and uninjured, well. Physically anyways.
There is a scrape in the bottom corner of the door, but not even close to the size of the metallic wound left just moments ago. Welcome to Waste Disposal, boys.
As you hear the gentle hum and thud of garbage and recyclables and burnables being run through the sorters, something gets spat out of one of the machines, a little ERROR blipping on one of them as beat up data pad slides and stops right at your shoe tips.
Description of the location: The waste disposal room is divided into three areas, compostable waste that goes through a grinder-esque machine, burnable trash, recyclables that go through an automated sorter, and then a general garbage compactor for what cannot be sorted. There's not much to say about this place except for the fact that there are occasional banging sounds coming from the room. Of course, they're easily explained. It's just the garbage itself from inside, rattling around until it's dropped off at the next planet-side waste site.
[ and that is the end of the encounter! you may play this out however you like in a PC, but if you do intend to do damage to the area/break anything, just place it in location changes and ping your mods with a link to your reply so that we can record it in a timely fashion. they will find that after the now-unlocked waste disposal has once again ceased its strange fit... that beat up data pad is theirs for the taking. you may take this tablet and share the information on it with other members of the crew at their discretion, though we would like to see this information make the rounds at least a few times! ]
THE ENCOUNTER.
