[ Maybe you were off on a nice stroll when the two of you found yourselves at the Cargo Bay. A lil blurb from the locations page:
The cargo bay is neat and tidy, full of plenty of hauling and handling equipment as well as gear to secure everything down including tie-downs, tarps, and cargo webbing. There are three fire extinguishers in the bay, hull patching kits, and a well-stocked emergency med kit magnetized to the wall. The cargo hold's door releases forward converting into steps, an accessibility ramp, and a cargo slide for especially hefty deliveries. There is a console on the wall that can be used to adjust the incline of the ramp for users and cargo alike.
No one else seems to be around. Nothing but the occasional sound of metal resting and what sounds to be a small creak that echoes through hauntingly. Well, you're both here, what's a little harm in some exploring? ]
[sometimes you are starving for money, so you end up in a random place looking for treasure chests. happens all the time. she takes a couple steps in - and when she sees charles, smiles just a little.]
[ Yeah, who are you going to report her to? The Space Police? As if that even exists. I quickly look at the text smudged on my hand.
Anyways, up ahead seems to be a prolonged crane arm that extends from the ceiling, in its grasp is a pallet with various packages secured on it. It idly dangles, secured and safe.
Otherwise, there are not any packages nearby that can be seen from the entrance. Just the leftover few held 20 feet up in the air. The whole cargo bay is eerily empty. As if been abandoned for some time. A quiet breeze rolls in, a soft ooooo seeming to come... from the packages? ]
I would say the senior crew, but they'd never catch me. [she hums, moving to stand a little closer to charles.] ... Well, we can look at those.
[points at the crane arm. a beat.]
Though I would be surprised if it wasn't a trap. Hold on. [she's not a d&d thief, but she is going to check to see if there's anything around the crane arm that might set off a trap.]
[while she does that, he looks around to see if there's any way to easily reach 20 feet in the air? or do he and throné have to get creative here to be tall. damb, where is sidon when you need him.]
[ You're not a d&d thief, you don't know what traps are, you haven't seen a trap in your entire life this is probably a lie but your reputation has suffered and honestly from this angle? You can't see anything. To be fair, that arm is over twenty feet high up. It's also connected directly in a straight line up to the ceiling. Seems like it was only meant to lift and slide across the cargo bay to set down.
Charles looking around will see there's a console on the wall nearby, but looking back into the large room will show a ramp further in that seems to be at a slight angle. Outside that, there doesn't seem to be any obvious way to reach up.
The soft ooooo continues with a light sway of the held up pallet. ]
[HELP NOT MY REPUTATION i only have four more tries before i have to find an inn...
hmmm.]
I don't see anything strange. Is there anything over there that can make this... come down? [she can go check out the ramp? is it a moveable ramp or is it just another section of the room?]
[charles trusts throné's word because why wouldn't he? would someone just go and fail rolls on the internet?
he will go and check out the console, as someone who has seen multiple jrpg switches in his life. does it look like there's anything to make the arm come down, or does he just have to press/pull things at random...]
[ The ramp seems to be part of the ground itself, lined out in the middle of the pathway. The way it looks to be slightly propped up suggests it could lift! While it is stationed in this area specifically.. it is angled almost directly beneath where the crane arm currently dangles.
As Charles approaches the console, he'll find it's actually a panel with a selection of buttons:
A glance around for any sorta code symbols or text otherwise comes up empty, just various references to EUDORA and NUT&BOT COMPANY. She had high expectations for this cargo bay and it has unfortunately let her down. As she stares at the crane arm, however, it seems to swing with just a bit more weight than the moment before, an increasing ooooo in the air.
Charles thinks it's only smart to have a manual or instructions attached, how else will people know how to use the console? How will they know what they're doing? But as far as he can see, nothing is attached except for this. ]
[anyway that's fine charles does unfortunately support the occasional yolo (ignore that he has set off at least one trap in his life) so he waits to see what happens...
though if nothing happens after the one button press. he's going to press the top-left button after her. also, just to check, are they, like... under the package in any way or are they out of the way in case it SUDDENLY DROPS]
[ The lottery agenda of what rewards could be up there is enticing. With risk comes reward. Those buttons are clear, gleaming a little under the light, harmless - all nine of them.
And a quick check will show they're not under the package no. The ramp further in is, but the console is directly on the wall by the entrance so you're safe where you are.
The two buttons gets pressed and.... there is silence. You can only hear your breathing. Before, suddenly, the lights shut off and enshroud you in both complete darkless. Not that it lasts very long, before a spotlight shines on the crane from the ceiling above it and loud music blares loud with no warning. ]
[ With the aid of the spotlight and Charles's helpful flashlight app activation it shows clearly the crane arm swinging in back and forth from where it dangles, like a kid that ran jump at a swing for high speeds.
Oh, there's also this guy? on there just "ooooooo~" ]
[ He is so, so tiny. Just a lil guy. Wiggling his little hands in the air as he oooooo's~
Though the moment Charles ooooo's, the swinging seems to heavily creakily and goes away from the two of them. The wizard oooo's louder now and strangely enough the crane swings right back in their direction again.
[ The louder ooooo strikes right at the heart, the crane jolts downwards a few feet as it swings away from the pair. Distantly there's an echo of voices in the background, the sound of... talking, but any words are indiscernible.
The wizard wiggles his hands faster, a louder ooo coming back that causes the spotlight to flicker. The crane arm swings back in the direction of you too again with another jolt. ]
[she startles slightly as the crane jolts - that's dangerous!! she's trying to stay out of the way of it but i think they should get hit by a crane, personally.
she - also looks like :tails: at charles ooooing back, but. it seemed to kind of work?]
Ooooo... ? [put your back into it] I could probably hit him with my dagger from this angle...
[this was not how charles expected to spend his day. shines the flashlight at the wizard.]
C'mon, at least wait until he tries to kill us before stabbing him. Though if you want to try startling him off the thing, that could work... [a beat] Ooooooooo—
[ To risk one's dagger for reward, now that is true dedication. The wizard has no fear, he's a freaken wizard! Though, the combination of them both ooooooing and sudden flash of the light at the wizard gets a small cry.
The crane stops its swinging, jolting rapidly up and down before it collapses down a few feet and the pallet slips from the arm's grasp. There's a shatter of wood and the packages collapse into a hefty pile on the floor directly beneath. ]
[well, that's fine, she doesn't really want to kill the wizard. or lose her dagger. but she would kill a wizard if it was the wizard or charles, so.
anyway. no!!! MY PAKIG.
unfortunately she is hungry for treasure, which is why she immediately zooms over to the packages. gibe. if the wizard is still in place, she just gives a short and angry:] Oooo!
[ The treasure is within reach, both zooming over to inspect the damage but... as the dust clears, they find that the packages hold no small little wizard man. Actually, now that the adrenaline is fading the lights seem to be back to normal, no loud Bustin' music jamming loudly.
It's the same as the cargo bay has ever been the past two days. Well, minus the fact the crane dropped a pallet of very empty packages on the ground. Wow. Who just piles up a bunch of empty pakigs.
Except, a close look does show you aren't leaving completely emptyhanded... as they find a slim data pad slightly chipped on its screen in the middle of it all. it's yours now. ]

Hm. This ramp seems like it could be useful. [thank you for the triple a modern video game dialogue, throné
she looks up at the crane arm... and then at charles. whatcha got there.
actually - can she see anything that might look like a code? like on the walls, under a random box, on the crane arm itself, etc.]
