Engineering is a thrumming beast of a room full of everything that makes the ship run. The equipment in here is pretty complex and definitely way over your headβin fact, you might say it's straight up out of this world. The jump drive is here for intergalactic travel, along with the planetary surveying sensors, inertial dampening equipment, defensive shield generator, and fuel processor. There are also emergency hull patch kits in here as well. The majority of these complicated machines are tamper-proof, with security glass that is shatterproof and unremovable, placed over sensitive buttons and levers. Looks like you don't have clearance for much else but to :person_standing: in here.
You'll find that within five minutes of lingering, you'll start to become extremely nauseous and light-headed, to the point where it is impossible to remain here any longer. If you try and muscle through it, you will find that the moment it becomes almost too much to bear, you are standing outside of it again, as though taken there by your own feet.
shiro is... looking in through the open doors, frowning. ]
... we'll have to work quickly. With this place and the bridge, seeming kind of like whatever's going on with the ship's not too happy about us hanging around here.
Speedrun, but fingers crossed. Not sure if she's distracted today like she was yesterday during all the vandalism.
[ he steps in after her, right hand raised with his fingers together and seemingly prepared to slice something in hand. but it's not lit up at the moment - just holding an action.
the thrum of the room is a humming pulse, steady, consistent. cold and unalive. if there is anything in here, or ever was, it isn't there, now, and mizuki gets the chance to look around for a bit with aiba scanning the sea of blue. nothing pings just yet in her initial peek.
at least none of it's pink or fleshy.
his non-prosthetic left hand comes up, and he flicks his wrist to pull up his I.R.I.S. to see if he can get access to any of the panels to make it easier for aiba. ]
Distracted or not, it's hard to be better than Aiba at stuff like this.
[ Normally. Neither one of them are still at a hundred percent yet.
A minute of silence passes; nothing yet, so Mizuki doesn't waste the opportunity to venture in more, looking around, as Aiba continues to scan further. ]
Kinda makes me wonder what's being so protective of this space, though. And why.
but he follows along, on the defensive as he continues to try the panels. ]
It's a lot of vital systems for the ship. Our jump drive is what lets us hop galaxies instead of it taking decades if not centuries otherwise. A lot of stuff to protect us from the effects of space - inertia, the shift in gravity, shields to buffer debris, things like that. The survey system is our gauge for whether a planet is safe to land on or not, and gives us a scan when we're in orbit.
[ speaking of the space jump and the survey system - aiba gets a little blip from both, like a wayward tendril of something that she can latch her little hamster paws on. so to speak, since she's in mizuki's head at the moment. ]
Ah-ha. All she needs is a little something to sink into, and from there? It should be easier to pursue on. With no hesitation, Aiba grabs on to the figurative tendril and pulls herself further in. ]
[ Meanwhile, the flavortext is right: Mizuki has no idea what the fuck she's looking at. ]
Okay, so it's worth protecting, but sheesh—someone would have to be real stupid to think about breaking any of it, so maybe it's a little overkill...
[ we'll give her the survey system, first, so as to conserve her energy. it's a less intensive system, though it does have its odds and ends to keep track of. the surface level is acquada's readings - oxygen levels, gravity, the atmospheric pressure, exposure levels to the system's star, any detected toxins that would be a risk, water density and acidity. it goes down, and down, to past planets from your tour.
and then, underneath... pending planets for survey.
earth. earth. earth. earth. first. no man's land. teyvat.
while shiro and mizuki start to feel the onset of being tummyache survivors, their heads getting lighter, aiba will get to scamper at the jump drive's tendril.
though there might not be any solid indication of the AI in here... there's a scheduled jump for thursday evening, as expected at this point. it's marked as hub. and, then, there's more jumps pending for every foreseeable thursday onwards, ad nauseam. ]
Ugh... I wish it didn't come back to the toilets. [ we should've nerfed pooping. ] But I can't give you too much grief over it. I broke Io's bed in the medbay because I had a panic attack under a minute of being awake when we came out of thaw. Crashed right into it and nearly took us both out.
[ your gany here, obliviously third wheeling along with this internal conversation.
creeping up the tendril of data that aiba has attached her little hamster paws to is a strange, static sensation, however. mizuki feels nausea, lightheadedness, slowly increasing like a weight on her - aiba feels that static chasing her probing, up up up up. she'll get the space jump schedule, and - ]
You probably could have, yeah. But there really wasn't a lot in there that you could have gotten into, unless you... I don't know, broke the vending machines.
[ and, then, both mizuki and aiba will feel a sudden backlash of static. it's an electric current, not enough to severely hurt either of them - but enough to metaphysically slap them across the face, in a manner of speaking.
aiba isn't damaged again, but functions are disabled for a little while. seems like the AI found you, first, and decided to slam the door after realizing you were looking where you weren't wanted. ]
[ She's cut short suddenly, slipping out a surprised, pained yelp as Mizuki suddenly grips at her head. Briefly, her left eye sparks, and as Mizuki hisses out a low groan following that, the light in her eye also begins to flicker.
Between that, and how increasingly sick she's beginning to feel, Mizuki collapses to a knee. ]
[ he whips around to her, ignoring how disoriented and dizzy that makes him to go so quickly. hoogh. ]
Are you alright? Is Aiba..? [ quickly, he closes the space between them, taking a knee and putting his left hand to her shoulder to offer some steadiness. ] Did, ah - god, we're probably at the limit. Did we get caught?
[ he takes her weight easily, considering, before looking around at the blue, blue, blue. the thrum of the room has picked up a little, just a touch faster, and shiro... is pretty sure it's time to leave. ]
Hope she got something out of this. [ she will get to keep her knowledge, she just needs to take a nap for an hour or two. ] C'mon, time to... time to get out.
[ depending on her ability to stand, he's either going to pull her to stand with him and hustle hobble out - or he's going to lift her up with an arm under her to make a fast getaway. ]
[ hup, then up she goes - he uses his galra arm to support her, even, so that he can reach down to his hip and grab the inactive black bayard he's clipped there. just in case. she can slump over his shoulder as he stumbles to the door. ]
If you hurl on my shoulder I'll forgive you. [ weak, terrible humor, thy name is shiro. ] Won't tell anybody if you don't. Ughh.
As if you need barf on the laundry list of bullshit you already gotta deal with...
[ Bad humor in a bad situation is also in her blood, it's fine. Fortunately, Mizuki is light enough that even her full weight is nothing for him to deal with, and so, they head for the exit. Or fumble their way there, anyway. ]

[ Mizuki likewise peers in, but she takes the first step past Shiro and into the room. ]
So, let's not waste a second! Ready, Aiba? [ ... ] Alright, go for it.
[ And that's when her left eye shines over; time to get into this ship's network! Where are yooouuu ship ai... ]
