Heh, I bet it'd get boring around here otherwise. There's not a whole lot to walk out to yet.

Yeah, the situation's not great but the company is good. I like the other seven, but the past month has been pretty quiet with just the eight of us and some places even closed off to us. We can still reach some areas via access tunnels, but they're a long walk and it's not really a comfortable fit for me in some of them.

How long has it just been you guys? You've had to have had more on board before, right?

Just the past month, as a skeleton crew between tours. We had 20 other crewmates before there were transfers, promotions, and retirements spread throughout the two months we worked with them. We kind of inherited the Eudora.

A month... Well, that's not too bad. Gives you time to prepare for a new set of total newbies.

We didn't get too much notice of you guys before we got you. We'd only had you for a couple of days before dethaw, but only a few more days before that did we get the message to pick you up.

So, uh. Two days? Is that how long we were stashed like frozen chickens in there?

Closer to three, but we were trying to make sure you exited cryostasis safely and we had all of your dockets. Thought it was all above board.

[ Much as she attempts to suppress a shudder, it's not entirely hidden. ]

That's kind of freaky to think about... But I guess I still feel mostly normal.

That's good. Most... I don't want to call them side effects? That makes it sound - [ eughhh noise ] - but I think everything that's been reported so far has been a result of the nanites suppressing powers and magic, things like that. It'll wear off once they get used to everyone and register those aren't anomalies.

Oh, good. I don't wanna be a wet noodle anymore...

I'm sure you can still throw a mean punch, even when you're not at full power. [ encouraging! ]

Yeah, I gotta test that out. But it feels weird that I can't pick up what I usually could.

Maybe not right now, but I'd be glad to work through it with you. [ tilts head ] What can you usually do?

I'm pretty damn strong! You know, normally.

We'll have a spar when things are a little less hectic, how's that sound? Can make it a weekly thing just to keep you on top of your game.

I am. Some of us are combat trained and have experience from before we joined the Eudora. [ beat ] Actually, all four of us that you met on Sunday are, even Io as a combat medic for a time. The other four I think it's just Adrastea and a little bit Metis.

Good. I bet a skillset like that comes handy in this line of work, huh? There's gotta be all sorts of strange aliens out there...

It can be, though... if you think about it, we're the aliens to the planets we visit.

[ makes you think. ]

No, no, they've already had contact with the company. We'll hail them when we approach orbit so they know we're friendly and there with our dropoff.

Oh, thank god. Getting shot down sounds like a nightmare scenario!

Oh, god, yeah. We could take a few hits, since the old girl's pretty sturdy, but I really don't want to actually test how many before she goes down.

Me neither! So... good. Overall, it shouldn't be super eventful or anything, right?
