[ sora will find ganymede seated on one of the more uncomfortable benches of the observation deck, as opposed to the comfortable seating behind them, facing the wide expanse of space. they seem to be looking at a wide spread of data on both their I.R.I.S. holo screen and a datapad on their lap, scrolling through graphs and charts and statistics. when they notices that someone has joined them, they straighten up and incline their head amicably. ]
Good afternoon, M - [ pausing, as if remembering something. ] - Mrs. Jingu. How're things going for you today?
[The correction to Mrs. does make Sora's face light up in a way it doesn't happen often on this ship. What can she say, she likes that]
Surprisingly well, despite the oddness of being a crewmember for a company I don't recall.
[It could all be going much worse, truthfully]
I wanted to shadow you while the diagnostics are done. My only motivation is to find out the state of the vessel we're inhabiting.
[Whether it's its components or the entirety of it. What sensible person wouldn't want to know more about the ship one will have to live in for several weeks?]
[ their emotions radiate something very calm and even keel, this entire interaction, but there's a blip of something pleased in a way that's glad to have made the correction. good! she looks happy. ]
Yeah, I'm of the mindset that this is not an ideal situation for you guys at all. But we're just waiting on a response back from our superiors, now, and I'm also putting out feelers to see if anyone's familiar with teleportation powers or tech if it takes too long.
[ they promised rosamund they would! ]
The good news, there, is that the Eudora's in pretty good state for being an older girl. Her structure is solid, and any damages we've incurred in the past three months have all been superficial from smaller space debris. [ ganymede moves to scoot over, but then pauses. ] If you'd like, we can sit here - or we can sit in the lounge proper, where things are more comfortable. I just like the atmosphere of the windows when I work, so I tend to default here.
Here is fine. I don't intend to make you change the way you do your work, after all.
[Let her juuuust get settled, accompany Ganymede]
It's a little worrying there's a need for military assets in this ship. Does that mean there's a chance of being attacked during our employment these two months?
[Will one of the Wednesday events be getting space pirates to back off while they blast the Eudora into a black hole]
[ they'll wait for her to get settled before they answer, polite but also considering the answer. ]
The possibility is never zero, but it's extremely low. Nut & Bolt doesn't contract with hostile planets or stations. Space bandits are pretty uncommon, now, compared to when courier services started off. We mostly have the weapons system now just to shoot at asteroids and any debris that might be a little too big to brush off.
Yeah, I can see why a lot of people feel that way. We have space travel, where I'm from, but nothing on this level, and it'd taken me getting scouted for a job offer by Nut & Bolt to see just how widespread a network there is out here.
At least you have something similar. Those of us that hadn't even seen a vending machine and are taken back home afterwards are going to miss the wonders of the future!
[Sora isn't from the distant past, but she sure will return home and miss the wonders...of handwiches. They became a guilty pleasure]
I wouldn't blame anyone for trying to take some of the tech home in some way, to be honest with you. It's all pretty life changing - hard to go back once you've experienced it.
[ the handwiches were a very impulse decision on the part of the mods after the defunctland episode about them, so we're glad they're being enjoyed. please take them home to your worlds with you. ]
[ a muted, thoughtful energy here in their emotions. ]
I actually don't see how that wouldn't be doable. Something solar-powered with universal adapters is probably something we can get our hands on. It's not uncommon for us to see similar tech when we make deliveries, after all.
And anyone that wants to use our resources to download or print out schematics for things would be welcome to. Kind of breaks natural development, but, well. Nut & Bolt likes to leave places better for us having been there - and I'd like to think it'd be a good way to make up for this whole kerfuffle.
[Someone seems to really believe in the company. Somehow that goes a little above and beyond the good word one would say of the company they work at, but Ganymede seems...to like the company at least]
Fortunately it doesn't seem anyone here would try to use technology beyond their times for evil. As far as I can tell, the majority are reasonable enough and not out to destroy everything wherever they came from...
[So that means them breaking natural development a little should be fine! That saaaaaid, goodness, don't say that so soon, Sora, there's a whole murdergame still ahead, who knows how these people are truly like]
[ that someone at least believes that the resources of the company can be used for good, but they're definitely reserving judgement of the situation for when they maybe know a little more about what's going on. what's the harm in reimbursing people for their time by letting them cheat the system a little? ]
Yeah, everyone I've talked to has been pretty good company, honestly. Present company included. [ a muted, companionable :) vibe here for a second. ] Anyone that's been upset has been well within their rights for it, but they haven't really taken it out on us or anyone else.
Which, we're the obvious target and I know it. It's a hard situation to be in, and we're suspicious. None of you know us, we can't reveal our faces to you, and we can't even tell you our names, just our callsigns. I don't blame anyone for being on edge.
[Sora laughs behind her hand for a moment at that notable :) vibe. Good to know her presence is appreciated to some extent at least]
Why does the company demand so much secrecy from you eight...?
[You'd think that, with this situation, they'd try to make the senior officers seem more approachable instead of restricting them to only using the callsigns. The workings of Nut & Bolt are an enigma]
Edited (A :) vibe and a :9 vibe are completely different, Nick, proofread tags before sending) 2024-02-29 18:39 (UTC)
Supposedly to maintain professionalism, but I kind of would like to think that I have a much better customer service smile when I don't have a helmet on obstructing it. [ a little bit of a dry joke, but it does also seem to bemuse them just as much. ] We follow it because it's part of our protocol and contracts, but...
It is strange, isn't it? Rosamund thought it was armor - and I guess Callisto, Europa, and I do have a little bit of armor padding in our suits, but we're combatants by training from before the Eudora. It just makes it seem like we're not human or approachable when you can't see us.
Did you three know each other before working at this company?
[Sora already has a general idea they're just like the junior crew, coming from different places, but also so many of the junior crew just comes from the same locations. For all she knows, maybe these three do as well]
Ah, no, we're all from entirely different homeworlds. The stars just aligned that we wound up working well together, and... well, I can balance out that they're more reticent personalities a lot of the time. Io does their best, though, and Callisto used to be more friendly. They've just been focused on work lately.
Do they, by chance, get along with the Chief Medical Officer?
[Io, that is. Sora juggling titles around with ease, but honestly I have to check every time, haha. I don't even know if abbreviating them to the initials would work properly because I don't know a thing about corporate culture, heh. Such are the woes of playing someone who is formal to a fault]
