[she glances at them - and when they set the book in her hand, she smiles a little, her fingers curling around it.]

... It should. [she says, after a moment.] It's... a work in progress. I haven't been free to choose what I enjoy in a long, long time. I'm not even sure that I can remember a time at all.

[but.]

I suppose there isn't any reason to deny myself the pleasure, you're right.

[dropoffs]

That you even consider it is already the first step towards it.

[ They grow quiet for a moment until they continue again with a thoughtful hum. ] We all start somewhere, and there's a bit of enjoyment in learning new things to add to that list.

So if an opportunity comes around, why not try and see? [ They glance back to the shelves, picking a book to bring towards themselves. When they do, they peer back at her, the hint of a smile in their voice ] Like that of a new chapter in your story.

she thinks about that, still holding the book, tracing her fingers over the cover.]

... Alright. [she says, with a little smile. and then she glances over at them, that smile turning a bit playful.] Wise advice. Just how old are you?

[this is teasing - she doesn't expect them to tell her.]

I suppose this is... practice. A practice chapter.

[ They stand a little taller at that, though when they respond it is with a hint of playfulness in turn. ]

A lot older than one may think when they see me. [ That's just in their profile? But. ] Such advice has certainly helped throughout the years.
