...Unfortunately, that is not uncommon behavior.
I believe Gregor's inquisition was quite similar - but for us, such is not the case.
Rather, it is a different institution entirely that prefers to sweep information or scapegoat.
I choose otherwise. All I have ever sought as the Inquisitor, and my predecessor before me, is the truth.

It is in the nature of life to be unpleasant at times.

There are worse things than Inquisitors asking
if you'd push a fat man onto some tracks to save children from a runaway trolley.

What brings someone to decide to be an inquisitor?

Well. In my experience, I can think of several fat rich men who would deserve it.

As for what brings someone to it:
I was chosen to be the Inquisitor by the Pontiff himself.
However, I have been training for it since I was very young.
It requires memorizing the histories and scripture of the Church ad nauseam, among other things.
