[ She doesn't have anything to add to the first part. ]
We don't necessarily have access to files like nanite schematics. That belongs to the company and our ranks are not high enough to be given those permissions. If we wanted to look into nanites, then we would need to extract and study them ourselves.
A curse always has an origin. I don't know what it may be, but an origin has to exist... It has to be full of disdain.
[the extracting and study. he sighs. time to get more lab shit (noooooo)]
So you believe that individual malice is capable of affecting the existence of others in the form of a curse... [he is clearly tired of this idea, but,] I think it has to be more concrete than that, even an unseen energy... but the origin still has yet to be found.
It may go back to your last tour, or even earlier.
It did seem like Io was open to a study... Breaking the rules, how daring.
[ She chuckles. ]
One source can be enough to swallow up thousands, possibly millions, Mister Brofiise. We could be dealing with laws of the galaxy we have never heard of or dealt with, but it isn't an uncommon. [ About the tour, though. ] Is that what you and the rest have been debating?
What are the consequences of Senior Crew breaking the rules?
[but scien shakes his head]
Only to a degree. You've spoken of curses before, and so I'm merely following up. As you said, even a curse must have its origin—that's all I'm looking to find. I'm willing to acknowledge that what may be at play is something that didn't exist in my own world.
But there has to be a source and a reason. For my consciousness to even persist after my death with no back-up... there has to be a reason.
It depends on the severity. Unraveling their patented nanites is on the severe end... So I suppose we would be sent to intergalactic prisons, divided depending on what categories we fit. I've read it's more ruthless than domestic incarceration processes.
[ But she doesn't seem bothered. ]
I believe something is tethering you... Though I may not be one to speak. I am familiar with lost souls.
Altruism isn't something only for saints, Mister Brofiise.
[ But his choice is his choice. She thinks it's a fine answer, anyway. ]
Legacy and destiny... How interesting. I wonder what future you envision after the curse is broken. [ Taps her chin. ] Have you made progress before you arrived here? Or perhaps here? Though I suppose you don't have the equipment to continue research.
I found a promising lead before I arrived. If I do not return, they will simply make my next Reliver and make sure the task is done. I was interested in collecting blood samples and suppose I still am...

Familiar with lost souls since you are.... [mentally sighs, but holds it back out loud] a witch?
no subject
[ So, yeah. Io might have to do that while she watches. ]
That's right.

And how did you become...
A witch?
no subject
I was always a witch.

What do you get out of it?

Do you have a desire, Mister Brofiise? An ambition?
no subject
[it is the only desire he has, really]

[ I typed cheese of death at first. ]
Is there a personal reason why? Or is this altruism for your people?
no subject
I hate being mistaken for an altruist.
[it's such a nice think to be mistaken for but scien just looks offended]

[ She thinks it would be very neat to have a fuzzy wuzzy gap moe. ]
Augmented or changed, everyone is capable.

[he said in the first trial... he is trying to be a funky lil human now... he's not very good at it but an attempt is there]
There is no personal reason. Perhaps you could say it was my father and grandfather's research, but I mostly took it up because I was bored.
Now, I persist in it because I may be the only one capable of breaking the curse. That is my responsibility.
