Essentially, yes.

[ There's a flicker of ? in front of their helm before it vanishes. ] Ah, technically Ganymede and I's roles do suggest we are above the rest of them but that is not the case. You can say all eight of us are on the same equal footing.

You're all chiefs, specialists or heads of -- after three months? You must've had some skill in what you're working on now before you joined.

[ you don't become a specialist of weapons and stuff if you don't know how to manage weapons. ]

[ A considering hum. ]

Well, we all have our respective worlds we came from, so for some of us we may have similar experiences perhaps.. but a lot of it was learned through training under the previous Seniors. I worked under the previous Chief of Staff for some time until their retirement came and I succeeded them.

Maybe I have timelines wrong, but one of you said something about getting a promotion after three months or something. How long have you been working here?

[ because in his mind there’s like eight of them in the whole company and the company really needs that retirement replacement energy now. fast track. ]

The eight of us have been stationed on the Eudora for three months now. We didn't all get promoted at the same time, nor did any of us start with the role we have now.

[ the company is much bigger than just eight people. what is it is there's only eight on this ship, before junior crew came in. ]

... Yeah, but three months is still impressively fast to be gathering promotions. Especially to the Chief of Staff.

When you hire new recruits, and you're nearing that time for retirement, no better time than then to train those to replace you, right? I suppose they saw something promising in us.

It is a lot of weight suddenly, but I have plenty of experience managing so it isn't too much for me personally.

That’s one hell of a fast track to promotion you got there. Did all eight of you go through the same thing?

[dropoffs]

More or less. Not essentially all at the same time, but it happened during our time here, yes.

... That's still impressively [ or worryingly ] fast. Most places take years to promote -- but needs must, if half of them were retiring.

[dropoffs]

[ A chuckle. ] They were all ready to retire, and us ready for work, so it worked out in the end.

Convenient.

[ a little too convenient, but hey. ]

I guess it did.

What kind of work do you do, O'keefe?

Whatever's going. Or whatever people are willing to pay for.

So... freelance work?

[roseoftexas]

Yeah. Freelance work.

[ YEAH! ]

Then you must have plenty of experience in many areas, so to speak.

[ FREELANCER. ]

Predominantly security stuff. Bodyguarding, stuff like that.

[ it counts when you have a team of five and you’re the heavy, right? right. ]

Sometimes information gathering, for groundwork. [ doesn’t sound like hitman work at all. ]
