[ they pinch and zoom in on their holo screen, where they're going through the currently available parts of the ship in the blueprints. they mark off no anomalies with the timestamp for the bar and move on. ]
I mean, that's all we can ask while we're waiting to hear back on the report we sent to the hub. [ they take their glass and lean over the bar to deposit in the glass cleaner, letting it get whisked away by the automated machines since thebe isn't here. ] You get your cigarettes? Most of you that asked for smokes didn't ask for lighters or matches, so hopefully the one we sent works.
I think a lot of you came pre-disposed, if I'm to judge anything from the requests. [ a light blip of amusement in their otherwise calm emotions. ] The nanites at least should offset any illnesses that come with bad habits, although the air filters are probably going to need replaced if too many of you stress smoke at once.
[ joking? anyways, they close out of their stuff for now and turn to face him on their stool, faint blue glow in their helmet blinking. ]
No problem. Think the least we can do is give you guys what requests we can while you're dealing with this.
I was quitting. [ he was doing well too. ] So, there are plus sides to the nanites other than all the potential horror stories I'm hearing of bodies being imploded and hijacked. Not in that order.
Can't say I'd blame you for picking it back up. [ the blink in their helmet is. slower. like they're going "what" to the hijacking and implosion. ] Well, that's a new one. Haven't heard of that kind of horror story before.
The nanites help boost your health, yes, and filter out toxins and illness. They'll also help expedite your healing when you're in the medbay, nevermind being your link to everything aboard the ship. No one's been hijacked or - hahaha, imploded.
[ they shake their head. ]
The pay's pretty good, and once more of the concourse is around I'm sure you guys will enjoy it while you're here.
Yeah, me neither. Someone’s gonna be pissed at me. [ thinks about how teuta can spend a chunk of the common route and shu’s route actively getting him to quit and it counts towards the hidden rating of your good ending. hilarious. ] Me neither, but it sounds straight out of a sci-fi movie. So, I kinda get where the theories are coming from.
I’m guessing that’s within reason. If I caught a cold it’d be right on that, but if I broke my arm that’s where your med bay comes in?
[ things said before the murders Begin - adrastea, spring 2k24. ] Maybe. We’re a bit boxed in until the system issues are sorted.
I won't tell if you don't. [ that's so funny. get this smokestack to cut back and earn your happy ending. ] That's fair, though. I had to get used to the technology here, as well, since my homeworld didn't have any real inkling of space travel until Nut & Bolt made contact and contracted with them. Sort of understandable to fall down that line of thinking.
That's right. The Eudora should be getting it to you next week, according to schedule, but Io is prepared to transport individuals in the case of emergency.
[ wdym this is a normal spaceship? there's no murder? ] Mm, it is a little strange to be boxed in after having the whole ship. I'm not a big fan either so I'm sure I have an idea of how you all feel.
… [ huh. interesting. ] None at all? Not even moon landings and stuff like that? We’ve got rich people trying to make money out of space travel, but it’s not like people just jet off to the moon for the weekend.
[ gets out my pepe silvia board, char. (“do you know this is char?”) no i’m going off ~*~vibes~*~, they may be off. ]
How big is the ship anyway? This is a decent size as is for the eight of your alone, so I’m assuming the whole ship’s pretty big.
We have technology that's fairly advanced, and parts of the world are advancing them faster, but they're more a combination of magic and science in a lot of ways. Nothing like moon landings or the rich trying to make money off space travel. [ a pause, then something... thoughtful. ] Though I imagine there are plenty who would.
[ you don't know, i could be zetsu committing sleep crimes or snow doing tags before having to go to work. ]
We're multi-leveled, and the concourse is actually a gravity controlled ring around the ship itself. It's pretty big, but our skeleton crew - so to speak - during the month between tours was pretty low maintenance while things were under construction or being updated.
I'm sure I already have, but they just haven't gotten their hands on it yet. Give the rich time and they'll figure things out, or pay someone smarter than them to.
[ hmmm.
they do shrug though. ]
Rush a job and it's sloppy. Some of this was tentatively scheduled for this week, but with the system's reaction to the stasis bay... better safe than sorry. Some of the stuff that's deeper in the ship, or on the next level of the concourse, won't be due to be done for a couple weeks. It works out that those are put on the bottom of the release list.
[ a light laugh escapes them through the synthesizer, making it a little like glass tinkling. ]
Everyone out there at least knows of that kind of person, if not knowing them personally.
[ just how it works. ]
That's right. The followup to that question is "ideally, you all won't be here to see the last batch of locations, because you'll be home." But for as much as I'll back Nut & Bolt, getting you guys home will probably take some time.
[ they spread their hands wide, and the glow in their helmet also widens, fake cheer but a bit of humor in their muted emotions before they return to even and calm. ]
Ideally not. [ echoing themself. dry, in return. ] It's at least going to take a couple weeks.
The lab equipment is more whether we can get it fast or not. There's drone dropships - little things that are computer-piloted - that can bring us what we don't already have on-board, but that one depends on how far we are from an unmanned warehouse station.
But, yes, it does tend to take us a while when we're this far out from the hub.
Thebe put the request in before we found out he's Like That. [ dry, unimpressed. they do not have a high opinion, there. ] I'd personally bar him from that kind of thing, but we'll see how this week goes.
[ shaking their head at the question ]
No weapons. We're not authorized or outfitted for that. We can get you a soft pellet for practice, like we were able to get someone a fake sword not made of foam to keep up with their training, but nothing real.
[ said with feeling, as i personally grip scien by the neck: i love you, you insane man ] He seems like the kind of person who’d just do what he wanted anyway.
[ also like he’s never been told ‘no’ in a way that mattered ]
…
[ SIGH. ] I’ll take the fake if that’s all you can offer. Seems a bit particular, given you’ve got weapons as part of the ship anyway.
[ he is truly insane. we have been losing it. ] I wouldn't be surprised if he just gathered the blood in coffee cups.
[ adrastea plans on telling him 'no' pretty frequently frankly. ]
The weapons are outside the ship and used for space debris more than any real fighting, but I don't think it's particularly great, either. We do have training weapons on-board that are more to form but that'll be an upcoming thing, and you can't take them out of their assigned area anyways. [ stay tuned. ] I'll put in a request for a fake, though,
[ i sincerely love him he’s fucking hilarious but i’m also going to run him over with my car and everyone would understand. ]
Nah. Look at him. Blood in a coffee cup would coagulate too fast and ruin whatever he’s planning to do with it. He doesn’t look like the sort to make that kind of error.
[ he’d gather them in proper tubes and then store them in any fridge he wanted like it was his god given right and you wouldn’t be able to convince him otherwise. ]
[ gib gun. ] Sure. I don’t really have much choice but to wait for things anyway. But thanks. [ for the fake pew pew order. ] Who ordered a sword anyway? Seems… like a choice.
that makes adrastea laugh, dark humor bubbling up faintly in the drift effect for the week. ]
I don't know, he looks like he never changes out of the clothes on his back if he can help it. It's the duality of a mad genius, maybe, that has me thinking he would go ahead and use coffee cups if he didn't have equipment handy.
[ the autotune-tinkling laughter dies down, and they swivel their stool with a foot, lazy. ]
Charles, apparently. It's not that strange to me, really, but you all come from a variety of worlds so it's what he's more familiar with I believe. To each their own. It's not my choice, either.
[ breaks into the locked post to type out i hit him with my old mini, me personally, not shu, but i also give his forehead a little kiss afterwards. ]
… Do you think Dahut’s ever thought about throttling him? [ thinking about my thread with aki where shu inadvertently called dahut scien’s gopher and he just :tails:’d at him. ] Maybe he would seize the opportunity, but it’d ruin the data in the process.
[ swings and roundabouts. ]
Charles, huh. If it’s what he’s used to, then sure. But it’s definitely a weird choice where I’m from. [ says the guy carrying a gun at all times. ] What would be your choice then?
no subject
I've not climbed the wall or staged an attempted breakdown, so good, I guess.
[ that's kind of a lie actually, he's absolutely used the zero grav room. ]
no subject

I'm not going to argue with benefits.
