No. It was entirely unexpected. Like last, we had anticipated events to happen in the brig and took shifts. If necessary, we had some restraints in preparation if it came to it. [ Closes her eyes for a long moment. ] Then this.
I have had my time to absorb what happened and I am fine, but the rest... I worry for everyone else.
...you think the rest are taking it a little harder? [ pensively. no bueno... ] It's obviously a little concerning that even taking preparations wasn't enough. Like the ship's reading our moves and taking it a step further to avoid being outdone. If a ship can even think like that.
I don't like that it sounds like you are, but... [ that's her business. he is getting the sense that where she's from is full of tragic and weird events just because of this?? master?? who keeps coming back not remembering stuff?? lord. ] It's hard not to hold some responsibility given your position as senior crew. Or at least that's how I'm guessing, and just based on how some of you are. People like Ganymede or Metis or Io seem like they'd take these things a little more personally.
[ this is a good question though and he grows quiet. ]
It wasn't an option I was initially entertaining, but now I'm starting to wonder if I should. I've heard that the nanites don't actually change at all on Thursday nights, so it likely isn't that that's causing these things to trigger. But it is obvious that something's getting into these people, latching onto their anger or darker desires and basically driving them to kill. So, maybe not a ghost, but...something else.
Unless you're about to tell me there's no such things as ghosts.
[ Sometimes you're used to seeing humans make the biggest failures. It's okay. It's nothing like murder every week, but the sadness is familiar. ]
You and I are of the same mind, then. [ It is what it is. Some people don't know how to rest. ] I'm inclined to believe in spirits, so you won't be hearing that from me.
[ the most tentative tail wag at this approval (?) though hm, hm. ]
Let's pretend it could be a ghost then. What would that even mean for the rest of us? I doubt the Eudora's been designed for exorcisms. [ also we just killed shouxue... ]
An item makes sense, but I'm gonna guess it's nothing something we could get from Omegamart. [ probably. ] I guess I could do some research on it. I heard we're getting the library next week. Unless you have suggestions?
Omegamart items actually use CEM wave data which is why the effects are like that, so I find it unlikely they would help.
[ wow ]
Libraries are a good place to start. [ Nodding, then thinking. ] Hm... Perhaps crowdsourcing on HER-MES might help? You could get nothing. You could get something.
I... [ I??????? ] Have you just been sitting on that knowledge the whole time? [ to be fair, he didn't ask. ] Okay, uh, good to know.
...the library's a start, but...this HER-MES idea. You think it's worth posting into the void and waiting for a response? That message board seems more like a mess than anything.
Anything else I should know about, Amalthea? [ god. ] ...I'll give it a shot and see what happens, I guess. I'll probably get a bunch of shitpost-y answers back, but maybe there'll be something useful in all of it anyway. I wish I had something more concrete.
A shitpost... Is a nonsensical post, I'm guessing. [ But moving on. ] What do you all have so far? We have presented what was shown to us in meetings, but it's easy to lose track.
Oh. Yeah I guess you wouldn't know what that means, huh. Sorry. Yes. [ moving on... ] I can show you what all I have if you think it'll help? Even if there's overlap.
Even if there's overlap, it's better to see everything available, but...
I do have another meeting soon, so perhaps the following week? We could see what we have... Put names to faces using context clues... That seems feasible.
Yeah. I can see what else I can collect and meet with you again later. Compare notes and everything from your meetings and mine. That'd actually be very helpful.

The state of the ship can wait. I meant you. I doubt you guys would have been able to anticipate this sort of change either.

[ She isn't going to go out there and say she thinks them being more humanly attached puts them in a worse state than her. ]
Do you think this ship is haunted, Mister Enda?

[ WE KILLED OUR EXORCIST ]
Perhaps—an item of importance? Or... usual items that ward off spirits?

Space is vast... But what do you have to lose? You can get nothing, or you can get something.
