[ faces: out winds: calm air: fresh i am witnessing nature at it's most optimal and the boss (?) can't see me.
in any case, they give a light smile back. yeeee let's get out of this tin can!!! ]
I could grab some more if you'd like to explore the woods, or I could be persuaded elsewhere. These strange elk-like creatures they keep. I hear they let you take them for rides.
I haven't been out to the woods much yet--[ is what he starts to say, and then io is talking about the e.l.c.s and his eyes light up. the puppy tail once again sprouts without warning, immediately wagging. ]
Have you been over to the paddock yet? It takes a little persuasion from them but they'll let you pet them and ride them when they trust you. We can go there first and see if we can take one out to the woods to look around some more?
[ HE'S PUPPY. it's fine. there is a swish behind io that looks a bit like the tail that would be on a bull, matching little dark blonde tuft at the end. it flicks, excited but more lowkey about it as it doesn't quite show in their face. ]
I have - they're quite amazing. I've never seen such a perfect combination of the natural and the mechanical. They take well to patience... much like other animals.
[ an easy gesture, lesgo. ]
Come then, let's find ourselves a friend to join us. Have you ridden one yourself yet? Or do you think you might need some help?
[ love this cow man. but it's fine, shoma's own face is pretty neutral outside of a little smile. ]
I've been studying them since yesterday, and earlier Mizuki and I went exploring and I found one that got out. I did repairs on it to get it home, so...it wouldn't hurt to go make sure it's doing alright.
[ help, thank you for e.l.c. char he had an iota of happiness before lowe killed him dead. happily bounding along!! ]
They're kind of amazing. But I mean a lot of the technology I've seen on these planets is. It's like...beyond what I've been able to make myself, but it's also like goals? Which is kinda dumb but...you know. It's good for ideas.
[ paves the way for smaller person through the snow so he doesn't just have to like hop in footprints. ]
Hardly dumb - take what you can with you, all the knowledge you can manage.
[ paddock of e.l.c.s... they just lean against the sturdy pen watching them as they arrive. their voice comes out a bit distant, almost hesitant. the word falls off ]
[ he thinks about saying he's half-tempted to entice an e.l.c. to come onto the ship, but the topic gets filed away for later because he hears that hesitance. ]
...by choice? Or by circumstance? [ he's heard a little about why io joined the eudora, but he's been curious about what happened to these people to lead them here in the first place. ]
[ they gesture towards one of the e.l.c. on standby, it meanders over slowly, as if familiar, coming right up to the pen's gate and allowing them to reach out and pat its neck. ]
Both [ hazarding. distantly: ] Both... I...
[ closing their eyes. ] Both feels right. Circumstance. Choice... interwoven. Sometimes these things, they connect.
It's...weird how we can still get what we want but it's not always the way we want it. It makes it harder to really know where the line is between being happy you're doing what you planned or and being obligated to because of how things turned out. Or maybe I'm off-based.
My father was the only physician for a provincial town for decades... so his passing left a gap that by blood I was required to fill.
It's not something I regret, though.
[ gives elc a good good patting. ]
Finding happiness alongside our obligations, it's a tough thing to discern. I suppose I wouldn't say I was happy with it... but... [ a tight smile ] Sometimes you do what you must for the good of a body of people. It's not a good thing, not something I'd advise so willingly. But a choice you make unto yourself. And that choice must feel right within your heart.

It was choice, that I wanted to become a surgeon... and it was circumstance that had me taking over the [ hm. ] "family business" so to speak.

Once it's a choice you make though, is it a choice you can take back later or change your mind on? Or is it just a commitment for life?
